Dr. Maurice Edward Keenan, MD

It won’t let me post what I want to say. My sister and I were both patients in the 90’s as little kids and have similar memories. Here to say me too.

I was also a patient of Dr. Keenan’s in the 90s. I have spent decades questioning whether he was disgustingly inappropriate and the validity of my childhood memories. I think I’ve been too afraid of the answers to search. That I found these reviews now is terrifying and validating. I’d also like to connect with others that have suffered this trauma. Maybe a Reddit post to connect people? I think part of me always knew my parents failed me and didn’t protect me. I’m now horrified that he’s still alive and practicing.

I believe the reviewer from Oct 2020, because I am also a former female patient from the 1990s. His exams were inappropriate and abusive, but of course I did not know at the time because I was a kid. Only in recent years have I realized that stripping naked and being palpated all over for an extended time is NOT the way most doctors examine when you come in with a sore throat. I have many memories I could share. Dr. Keenan is a creep and should be prosecuted. I’m happy to be contacted by other survivors if that is possible from this site.

I was a patient of Dr. Keenan’s as a child around the late 1990s. I have not come forward about this in years, but after reading a review on this site by another former patient who went through a similar experience as I did at the hands of this “doctor”, I think it would be wrong of me to keep withholding this information from parents who are thinking of putting their children in the care of this man. Dr. Keenan sexually molested me while I was a patient of his. His “pediatric physicals” would consist of shooing my mom out of the room (the excuse was that my then newborn sister was bothering him and that my mom had to take her out), shutting off the lights, making me take off all of my clothing, and then prodding around my genital area while holding a flashlight for an extended period of time. Being around 5 years old, I did not register at the time that what he was doing was inappropriate. Only some years later in therapy, after casually describing to my therapist Dr. Keenan’s… “extra-thorough inspections” and seeing her mouth drop in horror did I come to realise how wrong it was. I pursued legal action with my parents, which unfortunately came to a dead end. From what I understood, Dr. Keenan denied all allegations under the claim that I was “an anxious child” who made up this story to get attention, and considering his position as a seasoned and well-respected pediatrician, the case quickly fell through the cracks. I am not somebody prone to calling someone out publicly and slandering their name, yet I feel that it is critical for me to speak up at this point — if you’re a parent and are thinking of sending your child to Dr.Keenan, please do yourselves a favor and choose someone else as your child’s health care provider.

Please don’t send your children here. He took my little brother out of my mother’s arms, carried him into the waiting room and announced to everyone there that my mom (who was there seeking a diagnosis to explain repeated (4x) double pneumonia in a 14 month old) Hated her child and wanted to pay someone to take him off her hands (GROSSLY UNTRUE!). He then returned with my brother, plopped him down on the metal table and proceeded to call my mother an unending series of names. After that, my poor mom had to carry my brother (and walk me) out through the full waiting room of patients, families and staff. Put yourself in her shoes. After switching doctors, my family was immediately sent to a pulmonary specialist who diagnosed my brother with severe asthma and extreme allergies. Apparently my mother was right all along. I also learned that a pediatric physical didn’t mean sitting completely naked for 45 minutes on a cold table while a strange gentleman stared and poked at me and talked… about me like I wasn’t there.

Dr. Keenan was the best pediatrician around. You could really tell he cared about each and every one of his patients. It's too bad that he retired. :(
