Dr. Megan Jane Manthe, MD

Manthe has the ability to command a room. It's easy to get caught up in her strong presence and confidence. At 51, needed L and R hip replacement. Unfortunately, the hip replacement surgeries Manthe did went poorly. Here are just some of the many challenges we experienced: 1) hip kept dislocating after surgery 2) office didn't call back the 1st time it happened for 24 hours & when they did call, they said to come in and pick up refill for pain pills(no urgency & wrong remedy)...by then we had been to ER & it dislocated 2 more times. 3 days later had 2nd surgery on same hip to fix 3) Manthe indicated, after the 2nd surgery to fix the dislocation, she was "going to do some research on wether it was the best approach for this type of genetic hip issue." ...This "research" was something that we fully expected prior to the 1st hip replacement surgery, not following the 2nd to fix. 4) After 2nd surgery, went septic w/ blood infection. Not realizing it, 1st went to Drs office telling them… something was very wrong (office is luckily steps from their hospital). Standing there declining with uncontrollable shakes, clearly confused and having trouble standing just 3 days after "the fix", Office Manager was apologetic & indicated they could schedule us the following week for a follow up. No one said "you need to go to the ER now"....luckily spouse met up in parking lot & insisted ER as 15 minutes later couldn't stand as 4 ER nurses began sepsis protocol as body began to have seizures with all over severe pain, fingers turned blue. Manthe came in ER 3 hours later, her overly confident self, indicating hips looked good & she's "done her job, leaving town and leaving it up to hospital o do theirs". 5) confirmed sepsis, called Manthe to alert her. Office indicated she knew but it now out of town. 6) We waited 7 more days until she could return into town to do "her job" and remove infected part from hip. 7) In the end, Manthe had left town to finalize her new job offer out of State, left no partner on call to take over doing her job after hearing her patient went septic and causing a 7 day delay in treatment (removing infected part) & a 10 day hospital stay...good for hospital billing, bad for AHCA outcomes. NOTE: 2 weeks later we were 1 of 3 patients who arrived for our 8 am appointment. All post op patients, being rescheduled as Manthe cancelled her day without having office call patients. She left town again ( 2 months later patients received a letter she took a job out of State). Sadly, those patients were 15 months and 13 months post op stating they were still having issues since surgery. BOTTOM LINE: We liked Manthe and clearly found her to be quite a dynamic speaker. However, her over confidence is getting in the way of successful outcomes. She's a natural, persuasive, dynamic person and she may want to downplay selling / watch out for over promising. Also, when necessary as for any physician, brush up on research prior to a surgery as no patient needs to hear you are doing it after surgery.
