Explained the current status of Total Ankle replacement. Advancements in last 6 years or so. Performed the surgery with no problems, recovery has been fine, severe ankle pain now completely gone. We are blessed to have been referred to Dr. Brage
Strongly advice you seek second opinion on this surgeon.
man of few words. doesn't offer a lot of information...have to ask first.
First, the wait time: 1 hour wait after the medical assistant who got my vitals left the room. I have never waited longer than 20 minutes for the doc to come before in my life so this was pretty amazing in itself. Second: When someone finally came in, it wasn't Dr. Brage, it was his "nurse" assistant. I had to wait an additional 20 minutes to actually see the doctor. 80 minutes total so far.... Third: Brage came in and we shook hands. Without giving me eye contact. And his hand.... wait for it.... It was limp! I don't care how good of a surgeon you are, if you can't give a proper handshake I wouldn't trust you to with reading an MRI let alone operating. Finally: The guy's attitude was just all around terrible. I don't know how you live to be 54 with a job that includes so much interaction with people and are still socially inept. Either that or he was completely burned out and no longer giving a ****. He even swore under his breath when I had a question about my MRI as he was getting ready to leave.
I saw Dr, Brage at University of Washington's Sigvard Hansen Foot & Ankle institute at Harborview in Seattle, WA. I had suffered with a 10mm OCD of the talus for 10 years and Dr. Brage offered a fresh allograft procedure. I had global pain of the ankle for years at a pain level of 8-10 that never went away. About 14 hours after surgery I took a dose of pain meds as instructed and slept for 10 hours. When I woke up the global pain was gone! My surgery included a malleolar osteotomy to gain access to the talus and the surgical pain was very minimal requiring pain meds for only a few days. I'm 8 months post op now and could not be happier. Dr. Brage gave me back my life! The entire experience from scheduling to pre-op and surgical staff was top notch and I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Brage or the Foot & Ankle Institute at Harborview.
I had an artificial ankle put for my arthritic ankle about 3 years ago. I continue to do very well. I am back to walking and have no pain. I am very pleased.
All I can say is that I am walking again when several doctors told me I wouldn't. Dr. Brage was amazing and fixed me with two surgeries after I had a horrendous accident. I thank GOD for Dr. Brage
The Doctor is beyond intelligent but a man of few words. but no real people skills are evident...But he does seem to have a good grasp on problems with the feet and ankles.
I went to Dr. Brage with a fractured ankle. Thanks to his surgiqal technique and poor follow-up, my leg is being amputated below the knee.I would not go back to Dr. Brage if every bone in my body was broken. He lets his staff (Amir s - a PA) do his work.I will address my grief with his service and professionalism via l
My ankle replacement has gone very well. I am so much better than I was. I still have some aches and pains, but I can walk a lot more. I can sleep at night. Dr. Brage is professional and quiet. He will stay until all your questions are answered. He will answer your questions honestly. What more could you ask for?
My ankle bone, the talus, was badly broken in a bike accident. I had surgery by Dr. Brage who did an amazing job putting the bone back together. I am healed and in therapy. I am grateful to have such a skilled doctor.

My ankle bone (the talus) was badly broken in a skateboard accident. Dr. Brage put the bone back together perfectly from what I can tell. I am healed now and in therapy. Dr. Brage knows his stuff!
I had my ankle replaced by Dr. Brage several years ago. I am doing very well and walking alot. My recent x-rays show the implant has healed to bone without any wear and tear. Thanks!
I had great care by Dr. Brage. I had some awful tendinitis that resolved with his care. He explained things very well. I would recommend.
A tendon tore and my arch collapsed. I had pain for years. Dr. Brage repaired my tendon and reconstructed my arch. It's been a year and I am doing very well. Thanks, Dr. Brage
I would recommend him. I had previously seen 2 other orthopaedic foot doctors and both had wrongly diagnosed the arhilles tendon problem that I felt that I was experiencing. Dr Brage got to the problem and I had my achilles tendon surgery to repair the decomposing tendon. The pain was resolved and my ankle is like new.Superb job Dr Brage
I shopped around for a doctor to replace my ankle. Dr. Brage has the most experience in the California. My replacement is doing very well. He is a great doctor.
I found Dr. Brage to be a quiet, yet thoughtful man who completely explained my problem to me. Because my pain is not severe, I don't need a surgery. He is ordering a brace to help me. Good Doctor.
I had horrible arthritis in my big toe for years but hated the idea of getting a fusion. Dr. Brage replaced my arthritic joint with prosthesis and I feel so much better. I still have some stiffness, but my pain is gone. I recommend this doctor
I had decades worth of ankle pain from arthritis. I am 6 months now after having my ankle replaced by Dr. Brage. I feel wonderful. I just saw my x-rays and everything is healed. Thanks, Dr. Brage!
I broke my ankle skydiving. It was badly broken. Dr. Brage has done an excellent job with the repair. I have near full motion of my ankle now and it is starting to feel normal again. Dr. Brage was kind and courteous
My arch collapsed from a chronic tendon tear. I had failed a cast, therapry, medications, and orthotics. Dr. Brage reconstructed my arch with some bone cuts and tendon repairs. I am so much better. My foot is near normal and I can walk without pain.

My bunion surgery couldn't have gone better. I had minimal pain. I am fitting into more and more shoes. I love it!!!
Bunion surgery performed by Dr Brage. Worse after! 2nd and 3rd surgeries by another specialist. I'm much worse off now then before the first surgery!
Dr. Brage replaced my arthritic ankle about 6 months ago. I feel wonderfull. I am walking normally. I continue to get more motion. Overall, I am very pleased.
Dr. Brage replaced my arthritic ankle about 6 months ago and I am doing great. I can't believe how much better I feel and I have more motion in the joint than Dr. Brage expected. I recommend this Doctor wholeheatedly.
My podiatrist insisted that I needed my bunion corrected so I went for a second opinion. Since I had minimal pain in my bunion, Dr. Brage felt that I shouldn't have the surgery. He also felt that it could end my running if a complication ensued. I was grateful for this advice and have cancelled my surgery with my podiatrist. It seems orthopaedic surgeons feel that pain is a proper indication for this kind of corrective surgery.
Brilliant orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon. Highly published in orthopedic literature. World renowed for his work with fresh allograft for arthritic deformities and expert at total ankle replacement.
I have diabetes mellitus and already have lost a leg due to infection. My other foot was deformed with chronic open sores. Several doctors recommended another amputation. Doctor Brage offered an operation to save the leg, but cautioned me that it may not work. At this time, the operation is working, my foot is healing well and I have my leg.
Sadly, I had a podiatrist operate on my toes and they healed more crooked than before the surgery. I was miserable. I thought Dr. Brage was patient and understanding. I let him operate again on my toes and my pain is nearly gone. My toes are very stiff, but they are straight and no longer hurt. I can get my socks on now without my toes snagging the edges. I am walking better.
I had broken my foot severely several years ago and it healed up wrong. I had lost my arch and had arthritis. Dr. Brage started me out with medication, orthotics and injections and it helped a little. I then decided to have a corrective fusion and this has helped me the most. I am in much less pain and am able to walk.
I had Dr. Brage replaced my ankle with a new ankle prosthesis. I am doing so well and my pain is much better! Thank you!
Dr. Brage gave me a simple cortisone shot into my foot that has taken care of my pain. I had horrible pain for many months and another physician gave me expensive orthotics that didn't help at all. I highly recommend Dr. Brage
Dr. Brage misdiagnosed a cyst on my ankle resulting in extensive pain and suffering. I am seeing a new Dr. who diagnosed and is taking care of the problem in less time than it took to get an appt. with Dr. Brage. Office staff were incompetent and unable to relay inportant information to insurance company. Very disappointing!
Thanks for the great care, Doc!
I had a previous bunion surgery that went terribly wrong. My big toe was stuck up in the air and hurt horribly. Dr. Brage recommended surgery again and I felt comfortable with him doing it. My toe is now beautifully straight and works better. My pain is almost all gone. I still need a lot of therapy, but I am doing so much better.
Dr. Brage gave me very frank advice regarding my severe ankle problem. I broke it several years ago and have severe arthritis now. Several surgeries by other doctors have failed and have even made it worse. I need to think hard about what to do next. Dr. Brage also advised me to stop smoking. All in all, a good visit.
My lower leg was crushed by a forklift several years ago. I broke every bone in my foot and ankle. My leg healed crooked and my foot was turned in. Dr. Brage recently reconstructed my foot and it is so much straighter and better aligned. While I don't expect to be painfree, I think I will have a useable foot to walk on.
My Achilles tendon tore in a basketball game. Dr. Brage fixed the tendon very well. I am in rehab now and getting better. He is a very nice man and I would recommend him.
My ankle is so much better after my fracture. Dr. Brage was very kind and took very good care of me. I recommend him.
I have a very complicated ankle problem and have had numerous surgeries. During my visit with Dr. Brage, he was very informative, straightforward and frank about my condition. It was also clear to me that Dr. Brage very up to date in knowledge and surgical techniques. In a way, Dr. Brage restored my faith in the medical profession. I wish I had consulted with him earlier in my condition. I have a lot of thinking to do, but I will likely follow-up with this doctor.
I had horrible crooked, dislocated toes from my rheumatoid arthritis. After my surgery, my toes are all straight and I no longer am walking on skin and bones. My foot is all better and I can finally get my knees replaced. Thank you, Dr. Brage
I tore a tendon in my ankle and felt weak for several months. Several doctors missed the problem, but Dr. Brage saw it right away. I didn't want surgery to fix it at this time, so he arranged a brace to be made. The brace is working quite well and I am walking better. His assistant, Shayne, was very easy to work with.
Dr. Brage is an excellent OS. Treatment of my foot arthritis is conservative & keeps me going! Wait time is ridiculous to be seen. Time he can spend with a patient is very limited. More like an assembly line. I tolerate this because he is clinically superior!
Dr. Brage and I had a good visit. His staff is nice. My appointment was on time. Dr. Brage took care of my ankle problems. Overall, an excellent experience!
I broke my foot in a softball game. I knew it was serious because of the swelling and crookedness of my foot. Dr. Brage felt surgery was best to get the foot to heal properly. He was able to find operating room time quickly and performed the surgery in a timely fashion. I have healed up well. My foot is straight again and I am back playing softball. Thank you, Dr. Brage
I had three Achilles tendon operations by other doctors. All had failed. I had weakness and severe heel pain. I have had consultations with numerous doctors who had nothing to offer. Dr. Brage was willing to try another reconstruction using a cadaver tendon because the tendons commonly used were already taken. I had the operation and so far, so good. My pain is gone and I am in rehab. My strength is slowly improving. I feel confident that I will be better. Dr. Brage was willing to try to help me when many others weren't.
I broke my ankle and a local doctor fixed it with plates and screws. I never got better and I went to Dr. Brage for a second opinion. One of my bones hadn't healed up correctly and Dr. Brage operated to fix it. I could almost immediately tell that my ankle was more secure. In 6 weeks, I was healed and in therapy. I am grateful to Dr. Brage
I broke my heel bone years ago and devleoped severe arthritis. My foot was stiff and very painful. I had a fusion operation and my pain is nearly gone. I am able to walk again and am off pain medications. I felt Dr. Brage was professional, kind, and thorough. I would recommend him
I sprained my ankle last year but continued having pain and was not able to exercise. Dr. Brage suspected a tendon tear and ordered an MRI. He was right on as the MRI confirmed his suspicions. He had to operate and now I am completely better. I am running and exercising again. I get an occassional ache, but otherwise I am good to go.
Dr. Brage was able to fix my foot problem after another doctor had missed the diagnosis. I felt Dr. Brage was professional, kind, and understanding. He had to order some additional tests and then had to redo a surgery that I had done before. I am much better. I am able to run again and I feel like I have my life back.
I had severe ankle arthritis and was in constant pain. After Dr. Brage performed a total ankle replacement, I was off pain medications in four days. I feel wonderful and believe that I will dance again. I would highly recommend Dr. Brage.
I had toe surgery by a podiatrist and I was much worse after surgery. My toes were more crooked and more painful. Dr. Brage revised the surgery and did a great job. My toe are nice and straight and no longer rub my shoes. I am very grateful for Dr. Brage's care.
I am a marathon runner for decades. I had worn out my Achilles tendon where in connects to my heel bone. It was swollen, painful, and a large spur of bone had formed. Dr. Brage reconstructed my tendon and bone with great success!. I am now starting to train for another marathon and I feel great. Dr. Brage is my hero.
I have severe arthritis of my ankle. Several doctors told me I needed surgery and really didn't discuss any other options. During my visit with Dr. Brage, he discussed all the options for my ankle. It turns out that I was never offered an ankle injection by any other doctor until now. Dr. Brage injected my ankle with cortisone and I have been doing fine for 3 months! Dr. Brage felt I may need surgery someday, but feels that we should try all the other options first. I am very satisfied.
My ankle was crushed in a accident that left me with horrible pain and stiffness. Dr. Brage gave a me a thorough discussion of my options and recommended an ankle transplant. I now have no pain for the first time in a decade. I am amazed how well I am doing!
I had a surgery by Brage, and after 5 months it still hurts, MRI shows the problem is still there but now there is more pain in my ankle..He was 1.5 hours late for my surgery,he refused to see me one time and I had to visit ER room when I located a bone spur that he couldn't detect, because he never examined my ankle manually.
