Excellent ENT surgeon , vert caring and committed to his patients

I had parotid tumor surgery by Dr Yao. I was so scared but with his great knowledge and confidence in himself I was very confident in him . He is very thorough .He is excellent and I cannot even see a scar on my neck. I would recommend him highly.

Dr Yao did a full laryngectomy plus removed anything surrounding the cancer site. 3 other Drs refused to do surgery saying it wasnt possible due to the advanced stage. Dr Yao did it and I'm alive almost 2 years post surgery and doing great.

I am so very shocked to read what some have written about this Dr. I get it that everyone is different and has their own experience. My experience was that Dr. Yao is nothing by a complete professional and highly trained surgeon. Along with that, he shows compassion towards his patients and their families. I have had two operations with Dr. Yao, and my husband has had one. We both received the BEST Pre-Surgical and Post Surgical care from Dr. Yao, and I am most greatfull to have had him as my surgeon.

I won’t recommend Dr. Yao. Even though they told me he is specialized in what I went to him for,but it was a great disappointment. I now know I should not have been deceived by a doctor’s degree from top schools. They are just after your money. I am sorry for all the headaches that I went through to be seen by this doctor:(

I went and had a consultation with this doctor and found it to be the worse possible mistake I could have made.As a surgeon he should be able to read a CT scan and make some interpretations,it helps in providing a better exam of your patient.When time is important to provide surgical intervention he was not there.He calls but then forgets to speak with his office or did he??his office secretaries are by far the worse to communicate with,they do not know how to take messages and how to return them or give them to this very young doctor,that in it's self could be his problem.Found another surgeon by far better and more receptive and not in a rush to examine the patient(me),and he can read and interpret a ct scan.Warning,get a second opinion,it could save your life.And yes I am a clinical practitioner

I was born with lingual thyroid disease. My thyroid fell at the base of my tongue and since 8 days old I had to take Synthroid. I was 12 years old when my lingual thyroid started to swell in my throat causing me issues with swallowing and even drinking. At that time there was no safe method of removing the thyroid. So we left it alone and luckily in time it shrunk. It took about a year and it was a nightmare but thankfully I was ok. Then when I was 20 years old I started noticing that my thyroid was beginning to swell again. It was scary and I ignored it for a while but then I started having serious trouble swallowing and drinking, even breathing. I eventually stopped eating all together. I lost 50 pounds and was struggling bad everyday. I didn't eat anything and drank very little for 3 months. I was taking rectal suppositories to get nutrition. It was honestly all a huge nightmare and I just thought my life was coming to an end.. My mother desperately tried to get me a doctor and we… looked all over the country. Our small town has terrible doctors that couldn't give us the answers we were looking for. We only live 3 hours from NYC and decided to drive to Mount Sinai. We scheduled an appointment with Doctor Yao. He got me in right away and took a look at my throat with a camera that unfortunately went up my nose, it hurt pretty bad but he made it as painless as possible for me. He had a great attitude and was very caring. I could tell he really cared about me as a patient and that made me feel safe. I had an MRI that revealed I had a golf ball sized lingual thyroid at the base of my tongue blocking my throat. Although he had never performed a Lingual Thyroid removal before he definitely had the expertise and knowledge to do the operation. Another doctor he works with (Dr. Genden) had performed 3 operations like this at the time and was giving Dr Yao coaching so that made me feel pretty good about it too. The operation was about 4 hours total and the actual removal took about 2 hours. After the removal I was told it was benign. The recovery was a nightmare. The hospital staff was trying to make me eat the next day and I felt like they were trying to force me but I knew I couldn't so I obviously didn't...other than that the staff was great. I was in the hospital for 3 days before I was released and only saw Dr Yao one time after the operation but he checked up on me every now and then even a couple months after the surgery. I still didn't eat food for about a month. I was bleeding from my mouth alot..I slowly taught myself how to eat again but in the end I survived that and got through that. I couldn't have done it without Dr Yao and I believe he saved my life. I will always be thankful for this man. If you need any surgery on your neck or throat this is the guy to trust. He has the professionalism and expertise you look for in a doctor. Thank you Dr Yao and Mount Sinai.

My operation with him was a disaster. It created a lot of problems afterwards. Avoid him at all costs. He is out to get your money; not treat you. It was the worst hospital experience of my life.

I am a patient of Dr Yao for a thyroid cyst and I have high standards for doctors and surgeons. Not only are his skills exemplary, his bedside manner and caring approach to surgery was outstanding. I felt completely safe and relaxed in his care. For a surgeon in a huge facility like Mt Sinai, I was so impressed by how interested and attentive he is and would highly recommend him to anyone in need of head and neck surgery. Fortunately in my case, it was benign, but if I have any further issues in this area or more serious conditions, I will not hesitate to return to Dr Yao and would send my friends and family to his care as well.
