Morris J. Washington, MD will forever be an important part of my life. Obesity had been a struggle for me since childhood. After losing my 19-year-old sister in a car accident in 2009, I turned to food for comfort and continued gaining weight. I was miserable and felt as if I would never have control of my body again. After hearing, “Misty, you are a walking stroke”, and borderline diabetic; which led to taking blood pressure and cholesterol medicine daily, I knew it was time to do something or I wouldn’t live long enough to see my Sons graduate. I began to pray for the Lord to help guide me wherever I needed to go for help. I often had bad days, but this day, I was having a bad “fat day” so I started searching online for Bariatric Surgeons in SC. An article popped up on my computer regarding a Bariatric Surgeon by the name of Morris J. Washington, MD. I immediately called to schedule my consultation. Dr. Washington took the time to explain all my options, details and risks of… bariatric surgery. He was very patient and addressed all questions and concerns that my Husband and I had at the time. Dr. Washington was very honest and trustworthy at a very critical time of my life. After a visit to his office, we decided the Gastric Sleeve procedure would be the best option for me. I was sleeved on May 7, 2012 and because of the Lord, Dr. Washington, and the support from my family, my life has been changed forever. Seven years later, I am blessed to say, “I am down 128 lbs. and not taking any medications. Thank you, Dr. Washington for helping me with the best decision I could have ever made regarding my health. I couldn’t imagine this journey without such a selfless, supportive physician.

I had the "Sleeve" in 2012. Even though my pre-op weight was 190lbs, my insurance covered the surgery bc I was an insulin dependent diabetic. I lost 60 lbs and never took insulin again. My A1C remains at 5. I never had complications post op. His staff was excellent and he is very experienced and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

I had my sleeve in August 2016. His staff was always nice and helpful. He and his staff prepared me for everything that I needed to know to be successful. He went into great detail explaining and visually showing us about the surgery and what it entailed medically. The dietician made sure I understood the special needs/foods/vitamins and explained how they worked. Would absolutely use/do again! LGM

Dr. Washington did my sleeve surgery about a year ago (at a different location). Prior to surgery I had 6 months of meetings with his nutritionist who educated me about life "after sleeve". Dr. Washington told/showed my family in detail what he was going to do in the OR and on the day of surgery he gave me his personal cell phone number if I had any complications when I went home. HIS phone, that HE would answer, not a service. What a caring, compassionate man he is. By the time my surgery date arrived I was 100% prepared, educated and aware of what to expect for my new lifestyle. He gave me a wonderful gift/toll of a sleeve and I will never abuse it. I have reached a weight that puts me in the "normal" range and to honor him, I will NEVER go back :) Thank you Dr. Washington.

I love Dr. Washington! He is the best surgeon that i've ever had. He was so caring and checked on me often to make sure that I was doing well. Jessica was very helpful in getting me approved for my surgery and getting me through. I would highly reccommend him to anyone that is looking for a surgeon

He did my colonoscopy. Found mid-sized hemorroids. After the procedure, he fully discussed with me the results and the alternatives while sitting at his (very executive-looking) desk. Was VERY detailed in his explanations and made sure I understood everything, putting things in layman's terms. Although he is a general and obesity surgeon, he knows how to do gastro procedures like the colonoscopy as well. Because of occassional rectal bleeding due (presummably) only to the hemorroids, I need to have this procedure done regularly to rule out colon tumors. I intend to use Dr. Washington every time.
