About Me:

I grew up in Pakistan. My father passed away when my sister and I were very young. My mother raised us with great strength and love. In the uncertain times that we lived in, my mother always told me that to be successful in life I needed to possess knowledge and skill which could never be taken away from me. Soon I realized that for me there was no better profession than being a doctor. It not only provides me an opportunity to acquire unique skills, but more importantly I am able to help others.

I have been practicing with Kaiser Permanente since 1990. I take care of patients with kidney disease. People have asked me several times what I like most about my job. It is without doubt the relationships I have built with my patients. My patients are my heroes. I see time and time again the adversity and challenges people and their families go through and how remarkably well they handle it with dignity and resolve. I am fortunate that most of my patients are very involved in …their own medical care. I feel it is the best way to ensure that we will be able to take full advantage of the incredible opportunities in medicine today. I also serve as the Chief of Nephrology in the Diablo Service Area. I feel it gives me an opportunity to lead our Department in the right direction so we can serve our patients to the best of our abilities.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family. My wife is also a doctor. We have two children, a boy and a girl, whom we love very much. I enjoy hiking, reading, and travel. To Get the Most Out of Our Consultation or Follow-up Appointment

-Please try to arrive at my office about 15 minutes before your appointment. This will allow time for registration and for my staff to get your vital signs, such as blood pressure and weight. Please allow time for parking, as that may require extra time at the Walnut Creek Medical Center.

-Please bring copies of any important outside records that might be helpful.

-Please bring a list of your current medications and their doses, or bring the actual pill bottles themselves.

Let Me Introduce the Other Members of the Nephrology Division

I work with three wonderful nephrologists in the Diablo Service Area Nephrology Division. In order to provide you with better nephrology service, we have developed a unique system to provide cross coverage. When I am away from the office, one of my nephrology colleagues covers for me. The doctor covering reviews my incoming messages, laboratory results, radiology reports, and refill requests, using our new computer systems. If an urgent issue comes up, he or she will handle the situation - frequently over the phone. If you require an urgent appointment, he or she can help arrange one for you at the closest Kaiser Permanente facility or at his or her office.
