Dr. Nancy Kathleen Palmer, MD

I cannot speak highly enough about Dr. Nancy Palmer (I also have friends who see her and feel the same way). She is very thorough, kind, and compassionate. She responds quickly to questions and messages and stays on top of things with your help. I moved almost an hour away from her office, and I kept her as my doctor because I couldn't find anyone as good as she is.

This doctor is strange! That is all I can say! My recommendation stay away!

I saw Dr. Nancy Palmer when she worked at Kaiser Permanente in 2014. It's not until now, many years later, that I realize she was a less-than-stellar doctor. I was undergoing a personal crisis at the time I had blood drawn when under her care. My fasting glucose level came back slightly elevated at 107 mg/dl, technically putting me in the pre-diabetic range. My other lipid panel numbers were excellent however, and I was, and am, of normal weight. Despite my lipid panel and body type being contrary to someone who would have pre-diabetes, Dr. Palmer's response to my elevated glucose was to simply tell me I was pre-diabetic...off that one test. And when I asked her what I could do, she literally told me there was nothing I could do and that I would eventually become diabetic. End of story. Ironically, I had chosen her because in her profile she stated she combined holistic medicine with conventional treatments, so I thought she would be in tune with health and wellness and be able to… give me healthy lifestyle recommendations, etc. Well, nope. After this test result, Dr. Palmer didn't do any further exploring about what might be going on with me whatsoever. She did not decide to do further tests - for example an A1C test to see what my glucose levels had been for the prior 2-3 months, or a follow up fasting test to see if the elevated glucose could be replicated, or a glucose tolerance test, etc. I have since learned there were so many things she could have done, that she didn't do, to really make sure I was truly pre-diabetic. I have since read from another doctor that they never diagnose pre-diabetes or diabetes on the basis of just one test as Dr. Palmer did. Also, I have since learned that undergoing an acute crisis in my life probably was why my glucose level was raised since the body goes into a fight or flight response and puts out higher levels of glucose to ensure that should you need extra reserves to, for example, run away from danger, you have the extra energy to do so. Not only did I switch doctors, but since that test in 2014, my glucose levels and A1C tests have measured in the normal range. But I for many years lived in fear, feeling like at any turn I would become diabetic, ever since Dr. Palmer's lazy, dismissive, and glib assurance to me I would become diabetic someday with no way to remedy that fact (another point I have since learned she is totally wrong about - lifestyle changes can indeed help keep one from developing diabetes). I do not recommend anyone put themselves into her care.
