Dr. Natalie A. Afshari, MD

Dr Afshari operated on my mom's cataracts. She was a pleasure to work with. From the start, she did a thorough job explaining the options, risks and benefits. She was not pushy yet was clear on the medical need. Her post op was thorough and deep. She seemed to embody what it means to be a true medical practitioner that looks at a patient as a life rather than a pair of eyes only. Her humanity stood out for me. I have encountered multiple health professionals in my life (un fortunately) but hardly any that has the human touch to the degree Dr Afshari does. Amazing indeed. She took the time we needed (and Lord knows we likely took more than the "Average". Sorry for the others who had to wait because of us..). We never felt pushed or that we had to make a decision. She was present with us 100% during her time. Her attention to detail is commendable. She has a team of doctors with her yet she takes the time to do basic evaluations herself also. Her motto seems to be "trust… but verify". Her caring nature is what will stand out for you on your first encounter. If you have an option, get her! You will be happy you did!

I have had 2 highly successful eye surgeries with Dr. Afshari. She is extremely skilled, compassionate, great listener and provides outstanding care. I have complicated eyes and consider her the best of the best! A joy to be one of her lucky patients!

I am an 80 years old Patient of Dr.Natalie Afshari.I was full of apprehensions before my Cataract surgery on both Eyes. I was first properly Diagnosed and evaluated by Dr. Brown at Shiley Eye Institute UCSD in La Jolla...then referred by Him to Dr.Afshari for my Monovision procedures and Surgeries.The end result is Excellent ??. Dr Ashra did a marvelous graft of my cornea, treating my fuchs. I now have 20/30 vision and am so happy with the surgery and the results. Plus, she is a lovely person and has a terrific team.

Wow, the cataract is gone in my left eye. I had surgery yesterday, and today my vision has improved and the field is clear. The memorable part is the privacy and efficiency one feels in the operating room areas at Shiley with Dr. Afshari and her staff. Directions for eye drops to be used before as well as after surgery are very clear, and also the various prescriptions and supplements I was to leave out until after surgery were reviewed for me. My follow-up visit was quick. I was shown the improvement in my vision with the new lens. My thanks to Dr. Afshari for her amazing work. I had no pain and very little discomfort the first day after my procedure.

I had a very good experience with my cataract surgery. Dr. Afshari is a very competent and caring physician. I highly recommend her. She is wonderful.

I went in to have my cataracts fixed. A week after surgery I had the best vision of my life!

Dr. Afshari is now at UCSD Shiley Eye Center in San Diego and is the Chief of Cornea and Refractive Surgery. Her credentials say everything. She is an extremely knowledgeable, competent, pleasant and friendly physician. I had a serious pterygium removed which involved more than the usual surgery. This then required around 6 follow-up exams. I never waited more than 15 minutes after my appointment time to be seen. Very friendly staff.

Dr. Afshari didn't just see me as an eye that needed correction. She saw me as a whole person. Each visit she would ask how I was doing, something personal about me, and ask me if I had any concerns. THen she would analyze me eye problem. She went above and beyond to connect with me as a person. This attitude also was seen in her fellows working with her. Dr. Yamagata made jokes with me, asked about me as a whole person, answered all my qiuestions and eased my concerns about driving again. Dr. Afshari is a guardian angel at UCSD Shiley Eye Center.
