Tremendous Doctor. Very personable. Very knowledible.

I came to the emergency room with chest pain that I did not think was serious, but felt I should get checked out. Dr. Unkefer immediately recognized that I was having a serious hear attack and he and his team sprung to action. I was taken to the cardiac catheterization lab within 30 min where I had a complete blockage of one of my coronary arteries. It was stented with no complications and I had an uneventful outcome. I owe my life to this doctor and hope he continues to practice for many more years!

My experience with this doctor was horrible. I went to the LAMC ER with a fractured humerus. After I screamed because his nurse squeezed my upper arm where it was broken, he came in and told me he would not see me if I was going to be rude to his staff. I would have left but I was in such awful pain. He returned after a couple of minutes and asked me and my husband if we even spoke English. I was really offended at his obvious racial comment. After he received my x-rays that confirmed my humerus was legitimately fractured, he reentered and asked if we could start over. I expressed my concerns about the way I was treated by him and his nurse. I told him that I did not deserve to be reprimanded for screaming after the nurse squeezed my upper arm, I reinforced the fact that I did not say one word of profanity, I screamed because it hurt. Dr. Unkefer told me to follow up with a specialist in about 7-10 days but my complete fracture will probably just heal on its own. I went home… completely devastated and in the worst pain of my life. I did not trust his prognosis so I followed up with a specialist the next morning. The specialist told me I needed surgery right away. I ended up having surgery and being cared for by Dr. John Garcia, who is a stark contrast to Dr. Unkefer.I cannot even look at the picture of this incompetent, racist doctor. I have never experienced racial discrimination before in my life. It was the scariest and degrading experience of my life.
