My first encounter with Dr Phelan was pleasant. He seemed to have my best interest at heart. He listened to what I had been experiencing in the past four years. It wasn't long before he recommended a so called Miracle Drug that would solve my problem He called the local pharmacy and put in an order for the drug. Instead of recommending a limited supply he prescribed the medication that cost over $100,00, It did not take long before I knew I could not tolerate this drug. It was actually making me sick and yet I had a great supply which would have taken me a month to finish. For sometime I have been involved with the Crones/Colitis Foundation. After calling them I found out the drug he had given me was not approved at all by the foundation. I immediately called the office to speak to the doctor but as usual I could not reach him so left a voice mail for his nurse telling her that I would no longer be taking the medication. Shortly afterwards the doctor(his first call) called and we had a discussion. I made it clear what the foundation had informed me and requested he prescribe another suitable, approved drug. He was not happy nor did he approve of another, Later that same afternoon I received a call from my pharmacy telling me that a prescription had been ordered but it was not yet available. I told them that I would NOT be in ever to pick up any medication. Once again there was no communication from the doctor as what the drug was nor the name of the drug. I am thorougly discusted with him and would never, ever recommend anyone to go to him.I not only spent time but money 0N THE drug that had to be discarded. I truly question his patient care and interest, Now I am searching for another gastrinerologist who has the best interest of the patient at heart, Would I recommend him to a friend or family member? ABSOLUTELY NOT
