Dr. Nils R Hoernle, MD

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Hoernle for about 15 years. He is genuinely interested in me as a patient. Yes, he will constantly harp on you to eat well, exercise, and take all other reasonable steps to help avoid serious health conditions. He really wants you to “do the right thing” for yourself and take some personal responsibility for your health. He will look to get you to change habits, diets, etc. versus just writing a prescription. He is a truly good guy and when you get positive results, he truly gets excited for you. Highly recommend.

Dr Hoernle cares about my health. He listens and offers great suggestions that usually don't involve having to take medicines if possible. He has great advice for weight loss, and helped me avoid diabetes.

I was a patient of Hoernle's for many years. After putting up with his strange attitudes for a long time I found a new PCP. Even though I am in excellent health with a few issues related to ageing he was constantly trying to get me to take drugs for very minor issues. When I had issues that were life threatening he acted all put out and refused to listen to me. The nurse practitioners were more thorough and more compassionate than Hoernle. I actually preferred to see them when he was too busy to see me. Take my advice from an actual ex patient of Nils Hoernle. Find another PCP.

I have been going to Dr. Hoernle for appox. ten years. I have always found him to be very professional, with my best interest first and foremost. He is friendly yet firm in his directives. I would not want to go to anyone else for my regular Dr. visits.

Easy to talk to, unhurried, spends time answering questions, interested in keeping me healthy.

I have known Dr. Hoernle for many years, and find him to be very caring, knowledgable, and straight forward. He is genuinely interested in keeping his patients as healthy as possible, so as to avoid developing what he refers to as "chronic diseases" like diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol, heart diseases and cancer. He emphasizes the importance of a healthy diet and exercise, and even has a list of "medicinal foods" that he compiled that details how phytonutrients in plants can prevent many chronic diseases, and conversely, how processed foods induce obesity and cause illness. For the more immediate problems, he often takes the time to explain or diagram whats going on, and usually provides booklets or printed instructions and explanations of the condition and its treatment. He is mostly very prompt and runs on time, but occasionally falls behind and gets a bit more rushed. It took a few visits to get to know him and appreciate his unique… perspective and style, but since then it has definitely paid off. On the negative side, his nurse can be very gruff, and I avoid this by emailing him directly.

I like so many here found Dr. Hoernle on my Insurance website. I have found him to be very direct, factual, and extremely intelligent. In the age of the Obesity epidemic, he believes in a no nonsense approach to getting his patients healthy through proper nutrition and exercise. He is a firm believer that many chronic conditions are attributed to unhealthy lifestyles and tries extremely hard to get his patients into a healthy mindset to prevent them from a life of multiple prescriptions. After blood work and appointments, I get very personal letters from him describing, in very plain terms, what I need to do to increase my health. He also provides to patients a very detailed listing of healthy foods that he personally developed, and I have found it helpful for my grocery shopping. He will not baby you, he will tell you like it is. And in my opinion, for most of us that is exactly what we need. He is our family doctor for over 5 years now, and will continue long into the future.

I moved to the area from out of state and selected Dr Hoernle based off the info on my insurance website. I brought all of my medical records with me and was dismissed by him immediately. I have a few diagnosed chronic conditions that he said he "didn't believe in" and attributed them all to me being overweight. Infact, I do have an autoimmune disorder and the medications for that can cause the symptoms I presented with. He refused to refil my current medications or at least taper me off of them.. Horrid bedside manner, rarely made eye contact.

I also feel that he needs to put away his laptop and look at his patients on the eye. Also he needs to understand that we are there to be checked and treated by him, often he spends too much time talking and then will say that he is running out of time for the actual examination. I am not saying that he should not talk to his patients, but he should first ask questions related to patients complaints , examining them and them later be open for questions and further explanations. This should be the order of things.
