Dr. Owen A. O'connor, MD

Dr. O'Connor is extremely pompous, condescending and interested only in his self aggrandizement. He ignores any patient complaint that does not fit into his preconceived notion of your illness. He cannot handle any cancer that is outside his wheelhouse, even though he will tell you he can based upon his vast experience. Once it occurs to him that he can't handle your complicated cancer, he will drop you as a patient because you will ruin his statistics. If you are looking for a specialist, do not use him because you will likely be disappointed, at best, and devastated at worst. Also, expect to wait 2-3 hours for each appointment. His office staff has no understanding about the effects or discomforts experienced by cancer patients in having to wait forever for an audience with Dr. O'Connor

I cannot say enough about Dr. O'Connor - when I was diagnosed 14 years ago with Hodgkins Lympoma - I had the good fortune to find my way to Dr. Owen O'Connor and when I count my blessings - I always count him twice! Not only did he cure me of lymphoma - but he provided the most caring, compassionate, holistic, wrap around care I could have asked for! Every visit starts and ends with a hug and he is genuinely interested in what I'm doing with my life not just what I'm doing with my health! I always knew Dr. O'Connor was special - but it wasn't until ten years later, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer that I realized just how special Dr. O'Connor is - as my experience with breast cancer has been much less than loving and compassionate. Though I believe my doctor's care about me in the breast cancer world - the care, though at a major institution, is very robotic, and at times I feel like I'm in a puppy mill. Dr. O'Connor has been my 'go-to' since meeting him back in 2003,… and he continues to quarterback my care. When I received my diagnosis of breast cancer and I was not sure of the news I was getting from the breast cancer world - he sat with me and explained my diagnosis and helped coordinate my special medical needs that resulted from a history of lymphoma with a new diagnosis of breast cancer. I truly LOVE this doctor and I cannot recommend him highly enough!

He think now he the only doctor know everything because tell you he world renowned. Your lucky to be able to see him. He doesn't need anymore patients &can close his doors tomorrow only see the one has now. He does work with other specialty that will because they all say he doesn't listen to them because he thinks he knows more mush smart them. His own team will tell you he very smart but say has very poor working relationship with other doctors and 50% of his staff unhappy how he treat them.like I said he think he only doctorr can do thinking wright. If your case complex that need other specialty from different doctors in your in trouble. If need outside help from othe cancer centers he has them mad how been treat from past not really friendly to help because DrOwen O'Conner past experience with him. He really big name dropper saying all my doctors very well even said talk to one daily. I talk to this doctor of mind &reply doesn't know him. I also take another doctor of mind… said something. The bottom line he maybe once very good doctor but fame has gone to his head &&he 100% knows everything better then any other doctor in any specialist beside oncology. The only question look back if so smart has PHD beside MD doing blood cancer why has he gotten his board sur In Hemologlist?this should been every easy for this doctor to get ?

Dr Owen Oconner misdiagnosed me and it was confirmed by three major Nyc hospitals and Washington, D.C. That I never had Cancer he never spoke to my other doctors and never took there input if he did I would have not been given poison

Doesn't respect his colleagues. Is more interested in career opportunities than in patients.Moves from one institution to another frequently.

Dr. O'Connor's vision for his patients is limited by his experience. If a patient presents in a manner he is unfamiliar with, his reaction is to dismiss the difficulties as not being related to the lymphoma . In our situation it lead to a tragic result with the death of the young patient. His failure to be able to explore and look beyond the obvious is, literally, a fatal flaw. Do not go to him if your lymphoma is anything other than plain vanilla, otherwise it is beyond his ken. In terms of bedside manner, promptness, etc., he is a horror. He has no concern about the patient's time or convenience and will make you routinely wait for 3 hours to see him. This is fine if you are healthy but cruel and unprofessional if you are sick. With the plethora of competent doctors in the metropolitan area, there is no reason to go to him.

He was one of the oncologists on the staff at MSK who rotated to make treatment decisions for us (in patients). Was hospitalized for most of four months so saw him often. He was wonderful!
