Dr. Rafael V Hurtado, MD

I dont know how he has a rating this high, condescending, does not listen. Terrible beside manner. Make the trip to Duke or Baptist for quality care

I was frustrated by my entire experience with Dr. Hurtado. He provided very little information at the outset and did not want to answer questions because he said he wanted to wait for all the tests. After the tests came back, he indicated I was fine, but still did not provide much information. He made almost an off-hand comment - in as much as it was unrelated to the reason for my initial referral - about some indication of chronic cocaine use. I have never used cocaine. When I told him this and expressed my concern about what he saw that made him think that, he told me it was fine and not to worry about it. I later received a second opinion and specifically told them what Dr. Hurtado had said and asked if they saw anything he might have been referencing and they told me they did not. When I later requested a letter from Dr. Hurtado’s office summarizing his findings from the exam that I wanted to provide to a third party, I was told I needed to make another appointment and have another… exam. After having another appointment, Dr. Hurtado still refused to write a letter summarizing his findings because he claimed it was in the records. I requested copies of my records, however, and beyond the bare test results and physical exam notes, there was no indication of his finding or lack there of. I attempted to explain to him my frustration at having to make a new appointment when I made clear over the phone my purpose in calling was to request the summary letter and that his office could have simply told me over the phone that as a matter of policy he would never summarize his findings in a letter. He was incredibly defensive and apropos of nothing started talking about how lawyers just want to sue people. In general, I did not feel that Dr. Hurtado listened to me as his patient and this feeling was exacerbated by the fact that he would repeat the same questions sometimes multiple times and repeat back the information incorrectly or respond in a way that seemed to ignore the answer. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a doctor.

My husband had a stroke and Dr. Hurtado was his Neurologist in the hospital. We had many follow up appointments with him and he was absolutely one of the rudest doctors I've ever met. He sits at his computer typing and never examined my husband. The only thing he did was tell him to walk across the floor. He types at his computer and when your time is up whether you have questions or not he says, "Times up, bye bye". He put my husband on a CPAP machine. We went straight from the office to the place to order the machine and it took 6 weeks before they fulfilled it. By the time he had his follow up appt, he had only had the CPAP machine for two weeks. We tried to explain that to Dr. Hurtado and it was like he never heard us. Basically he called us liars and told my husband if you don't use this machine 70% of the time, the insurance won't pay for it. He said you've only used it two weeks. I told him once again that he had only had it two weeks. He turns around and tells my husband,… "Well, you've got to use it more than two weeks because the insurance won't pay for it." I told him once again that he had only had it two weeks. He didn't believe us. I told him he could check with the agency that we got it from. I told him to check the dates and see when it was delivered. He just ignored me. We've fired this doctor and found Dr. Walsh in Martinsville. I'll drive the 30 miles just to make sure my husband recovers all that he can after his stroke. We wasted a lot of time with this doctor.

Felt extremely insignificant. Did not feel as though Dr. Hurtado cared about my condition in the least. At the end of visit I said, "May I ask one more question," to which he replied, "Bye." Very unhappy with my visit and treatment.

I saw him for sleep apnea for over four years. He has excellent credentials for that. He recently diagnosed me with Narcolepsy. He decided on the most extreme form of treatment for this disease which he was NOT prepared to handle properly. He did not answer my questions in regards to my concerns about the side effects of the medication he prescribed. His conversation indicated that I should "just trust him" to know and do what was best for me. He and his staff had no regard for FMLA time restraints. His bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired. I will definitely not be going back to him.

i had several visits with him. He spends most of the office visits. typing nurses notes into his computer. He doesn't allow me to ask questions, he is too busy typing. He never looks at me and when he speaks he is looking the other way. He is always distracted. I will find another doctor.

Waited almost 2hrs for him, once he came in the room, looked over all the records I brought in for him, I tried to ask him questions about concerns I had, He stated he does not answer questions on 1st visit's, but ordered a list of test and told me to come back. For a patient that has had strokes and sezuires I will never go back to this jerk. Very rude, Very unprofessional. Dont waste your time with him, Find another doctor out of the Danville area....

long wait, many interruptions, need to focus.

This doctor can find things about your condition and help you to get better. I'm getting there, I've had to put things on hold but i'll be back to see him to get things right for me. He's great in what he does and the staff are good in what they do too.
