My son needed a sedated heart echo and that was scheduled wonderfully. However, after the heart echo was completed, we called to schedule an appointment to discuss the study findings. The staff said that we needed to meet first with a nephrologist before the doctor would talk to us, and would not say why. When pressed, they said that they'd have the doctor call us back. We immediately decided to go instead to Children's National for his cardiac care. When I went to get a copy of the notes, I saw that there is NO write up of the findings, and was charged $50 for three pieces of paper. If at all possible, avoid this practice. Do not trust Childrens Heart Institute for your child's cardiac care. It is too important to leave it up to a practice that does not provide adequate follow on care or emphasize education for their patients' caregivers. Patients and parents deserve better.
