Grandmother went in for a knee problem. The PA gave her samples of Ultram Er and had told her to take one dose every 6 hrs. She started to follow Dr's instructions and wound up in the hospital after 2 doses. After I spoke with the manufacturer I found out this medication is to be administered once a day. They should not have Physician Assistants giving out samples when they are not educated on these products. The pharmacy safe gaurds patients against this type of error. Sometimes I wonder what kick back these Dr's recieve from Pharmaceutical sales reps. Lets leave medication to the Pharmacy and keep patients safe.
