Dr. Robert A Beck, MD

My first appointment with Dr. Buck went fairly well. He spent quite a bit of time with me, although much of it was discussing his own experiences and ideas. Based on the first meeting, this rating would have been no higher than three stars. I was prescribed a prophylactic medication (although the neurological condition had been well-managed for many years and I was there only for updated evaluation of its progression and current status). The warnings and reviews of the drug indicated major problems could occur; I chose not to take it. Also, the major reason for my visit was not addressed or accomplished. The second appointment following up was several months later during which time I had been receiving diagnosis and treatment for several non-neurological conditions, part of which therapy included supplements, herbal and vitamin. Those were made part of my chart which is accessible by all practitioners in this network. Apparently, Dr. Buck reviewed the current medications, assumed… that because I did not include the dangerous drug he prescribed as part of my medical regimen that the supplements were substituting for that (even though they weren't), was aggravated by this and discussed it with his (male) nurse just prior to my appointment. The second appointment would be a zero-star rating if that were available. There was an extremely long wait (about 35 minutes); the nurse was overtly rude, short, and snippy; and when I did see Dr. Buck, his attitude and communication mirrored that of his nurse. He did not ask about my condition(s), my use of supplements and my decision not to take the prophylactic drug; nor my reason for devoting my resources to meeting with him. Instead, he looked over my head while he went on a mini-rant about (paraphrasing) "people who think they know more than doctors" and noted that "this is not a naturopath's office" and "we don't practice alternative medicine here." The complete absence of empathy and no signs of humility from either the doctor or his nurse left a bad taste in my mouth and a sick feeling in my stomach. Some of those who are talented enough to complete medical school and establish a practice should realize that some great doctors who went before them said, "First, do no harm" and "Blessed are the poor in spirit..."

First appt he comes in and first thing he says, not hello, no introduction... "I want you to know right now that I am NOT going to prescribe any of these drugs!" (I'm on morphine for CRPS which is managed and treated at a pain clinic in Kansas City but of course I listed all my current meds). I never asked him for medication. It wasn't why I was there but of course it went downhill from there as he'd already decided I was a scumbag drug seeker and would be treated as such. He didn't bother to read my medical records. Later I had to petition to have his notes removed from my medical records as it interfered with my care and impactEd how I was treated by other doctors. My GP had to help me undo the damage he did. Many others have complained about him and his partners. Avoid this office at all costs especially if you are a woman. Females can expect to be treated as sub-human.
