Dr. Robert Leslie Barrack, MD

Very disappointing in surgery and in the exam room. My knee was unstable after he performed a total knee replacement. When I returned to his office, he radiographed and offered steroid injections and a second physical therapist. After two physical therapists my knee was still unstable and painful. A surgeon in Chicago performed a revision surgery. He said that if he had done the first surgery, a second surgery would not have been needed.

Dr. Barrack performed a hip replacement for me 8 years ago. He walked me through the procedure and answered all of my questions. I received excellent follow-up care and was recently seen at my request for evaluation of the replacement as well as my other hip. I have the utmost trust and confidence in Dr. Barrack and is most grateful for his accessibility!

I had a bilateral hip replacement, the Birmingham Hip. I was told that this would allow me to return to my active life style that I had prior to my injury. That was not the case. There was relief of some of the pain , but limited motion as far as my active life style. I recently found out that there has been a investigation on the hip replacement. When I asked him about it he claimed that there was no investigation. If a doctor is promoting a certain product, he/she should be up on the current news regarding the product.

Had a knee replacement a few yearto another doc. He had to remove fluid from my knee ever month. New doc said there was too much give in my knee and Dr. BARRACK PUT MY SEVERELY ARTHRITIC KNEE CAPS BAC IN MY KNEE. HAD TO HABE ANOTHER SURGERY. KNEE WAS MUCH BETTER. STAY AEAY FROM HIM s ago. Pain never got better. EentM

My overnight stay at Barnes Hospital resulted in a C-dif infection (severe diarrhea) while trying to recuperate at home. Office calls required me to submit samples which were not conclusive. Only after my physical therapist intervened did I receive the appropriate meds. I never heard from Dr. Barrack. And the knee replacement did not prevent pain, limiting my activity.

In Nov 2017 Dr Barrack replaced my left knee. Still hurts. Insisted I go down town St Louis to BJC Hospital although he is on the staff at several hospitals in county which would have been more convenient for me. The day after my surgery he insisted that I leave and I don't know if I got an extra load of antibiotics because I left the next day but my immune system was destroyed and I am still fighting a fungal infection with all the nasty side effects. I was told that the Dr and the hospital get a kickback from the insurance company if they get you out early. Maybe that's the reason why Dr Barrack didn't want me to go to rehab. He said there was germs there. Seriously ? Hes never seen my house. It could be a pig sty for all he knows. I wake up in the morning because my tongues on fire and I have a mouthful of bitter scum. That's the beginning of my day. I've been to five different doctors and taken six different medicines. The side effects range from sore throat, difficulty… swallowing , headaches, weight gain and brain fog. Brain fog is when you can't remember how to spell otherwise simple words. Eventually this will go to my liver or heart and I will die. If getting this is just the way it is that would be one thing. But if I'm going thru this because I got a big dose of antibiotics so they could release me early....well that's another thing. I would caution everyone to not go to Dr Barrack and perhaps not get surgery at all. Im sorry I did.

Dr barrack was rude and offended when I would ask any questions. I finally quit asking after he left the room his Asst immediately answered my questions that I had asked. She said he was always like that. Then the Dr that actually did my procedure said that there were lots of complaints about how rude Dr Barrack was. Time for him to retire.

I did not like anything about my visit with Dr. Barrack. I was a new patient, just there to get knee shots. He came into the room and just walked right past me and said to his nurse, " Are you not ready for me"! He said "lay down" and then gave me the shots. One of them about sent me through the roof because he left the needle in my leg and pushed it left to right about 5 times. No explanations. He was leaving the room, and I said, "Dr. did you see my xrays"? He replied, "yes", and left the room without even looking at me. The man said 3 words to me. His nurse gave me a piece of paper saying that I was welcome to come back and see Dr. Barrack, however he does have interns that usually give the shots! When I called for an appointment, I told them I needed knee shots.....so the receptionist must not have know about the interns. I am still perplexed that Barnes Hospital, which I love, has someone like this on their staff. This happened over a year ago, and this is the first… time I have ever given a bad review, and he messed up my knee which I won't go into details about.

I had a total knee replacement 11 months ago. I have had severe pain when I try to bend my knee. dr barrack just told me to work on straightening my knee and said that everything looked goo. I went to another surgeon who withdrew fluid from my knee then gave me a cortisone injection ; I did this for four months. The surgeon said Dr. barrack didn't resurface my knee cap and the knee had too much overhang . I would never go back to Dr. Barrack.

Referred to Barrack by quite a few other doctors as the best knee surgeon in St. Louis MO. Not so per my experience with him. He refused my requests for cortisone control of my severe pain. Had 3 surgeries on left knee, he did the 3rd revision. Physically the repair was well done. However, pain just as bad as always, if not worse. Still no pain relief. Very quiet man, you must ask all questions, he is not forthcoming to me with any ideas for pain control or positive therapies re pain issue. Instead speaks with a colleague one of all whom accompany him to my consultation; as if I were not there. I feel hs goal should be to bring me to controllable if not free of pain. Just not so. Sorry to speak badly about Dr. Barrack but that's just how I feel about it all. JMOHO
