Dr. Robert Lamar Eyster

I had a knee replacement done by Dr. Eyster in 2002. Due to my own poor judgment, It needed to be redone in 2003. Dr. Eyster did an amazing job on repairing the damage. In 2008, I got a staph infection that had traveled rapidly from my foot to my knee, and once again I returned to Dr. Eyster on a walk-in, extreme emergency basis. He immediately took action, though he was between surgeries at the hospital where he practiced, that likely saved my knee and quite possibly, my life. I stayed on antibiotics for years, at the recommendation of an infectious disease specialist, and finally had the knee replaced a third time in 2013 due to damage that was caused by that initial infection five years earlier. Dr. Eyster had a health problem since resolved, that led him to recommend another orthopedic surgeon who ably performed the necessary surgery. I've had no problems since. In my long life I have had few, if any, physicians of any specialty who have been as competent and as caring as Dr.… Eyster and consider myself very fortunate to have been referred to him for his care. His long time assistant, Mike Ramsey, was equally professional.

Worst Doctor I have ever had. Poor bedside, worse diagnosis, 4 extra months of pain and loss of work thanks to his poor service.

He is a good and knowledgeable Dr. but watch out, because his bedside manner stinks.

I went to see him for pain in lower back, upper back, neck and hip. I had had surgeries in these areas before. He had me stand up, move my head back and forth and then side to side. He sent me to X-ray to get a picture of my lower back. After seeing the X-ray he decided I had a degenerated disc above a previous fusion. He told me I'd need surgery to repair it and then another surgery every 3 years to repair the disc above it. He decided I needed an epidural cortisone injection to keep me out of pain for awhile. Then walked out without addressing any other conditions.In a subsequent letter to my family practitioner he wrote that my back pain was not that bad and that my problem was mainly depression, although I don't have depression, and needed to lose weight and then maybe have surgery in a year or so.

I have had my shoulder operated on by 3 teams and Dr Eyester's surgery left my shoudler in FAR better shape than any other surgeon. I went to PT 10 days after surgery and passed all of the Range of Motion milestones on the first visit. They had never seen that before.

I had 2 surgeries to repair torn meniscus and 1 year later had an MRI that proved he never repaired the original tear. I have the before and after MRIs that prove this.
