Dr. Robert K Mcclure

Dr. McClure is one of the best physician in his field and by far the best physician and a professor i have ever worked for in psychiatry. I was and still am a certified TMS tech, he is the first physician i would like work under when or if i decide to return to UNC chapell hill.

I received ECT from Dr. McClure when I was admitted to UNC Hospitals for the treatment of depression. He came up to the ward immediately. He spent 90 minutes interviewing me after reviewing the records. He was courteous and professional. He explained the risks and benefits of ECT. He is a great doctor.

Dr. McClure's schedule is usually booked solid well in advance, because, he is a very good physician with broad clinical experience diagnosing and treating mood and psychotic disorders. He also does ECT and ECT consults, as well as research, so he is very busy. However, Dr. McClure's clinic generally runs on time, perhaps 5-10 minutes late on a busy day, but if there's a patient emergency, the wait may be longer. The office staff are friendly and courteous, both at the adult clinic at UNC in the hospital and the faculty private practice in Chapel Hill on Connor Drive. Dr. McClure is an excellent diagnostician, since he has diagnosed an managed all sorts of psychiatric problems in residency, research fellowship and in practice. He has a great bedside manner and seems to really understand people with psychiatric problems. He spends plenty of time with his patients: (1.) first psychiatric evaluations are 60-90 minutes; medication check ups are 25-30 minutes; and therapy sessions… are 45-50 minutes. Follow up is always good. He returns calls within 24 hours during the week, and the next weekday on weekends, but, UNC has 24-hour emergency services. Dr. McClure is great, but my insurance company does everything possible to deny care and to reimburse me well under the rates that most psychiatrists charge. I like Dr. McClure but I hate my insurance company
