Dr. Robert Bell, MD

I had bariatric surgery with Dr. Bell about 6 years ago. I found him to be kind, patient, and very supportive. I've been trying to follow up with him, but he seems to have disappeared. Would love to find him if he's still practicing locally.

Fantastic Doctor! Helped me through a revision surgery from ten years prior. He helped me understand the surgery and goals prior to surgery far beyond that of what I could gather online. The surgery was complicated and preformed perfectly. great results, and great post op care, getting back to me same day on portal messages.

I’ve had a very positive experience with Dr Bell. He has a wonderful bedside manner and he is also extremely knowledgeable and competent. He took a lot of time with me during each appointment and after my surgery to explain everything and answer my questions. I would enthusiastically recommend him.

Contrary to what some others have written, I have found Doctor Bell to be exceedingly caring. He clearly explains the risk and benefits of Bariatric surgery and goes above and beyond to make sure patients are making an informed decision. I found him to be very interested in all aspects of my care, both pre and post surgery. All surgery has risks and complications occur even despite good technical care. A bad outcome is not indicative of bad care. Dr. Bell is empathetic and not at all arrogant. I would reccomend him and SMG without reservation.

Extremely arrogant and lacks compassion of any kind. He refuses to admit that his surgery could have complications or that mistakes may have resulted in poor outcomes. He does his surgery, invoices the insurance and then drops you. He will not accept your poor outcome from his surgery. He simply performs your sugery, invoices the insurance company and then sends you away, regardless of your poor outcomes. You can no longer expect to receive additional follow-up from him. His arrogance makes him dangerous and can have poor outcome that will stay with you for the rest of you like.

I can't say enough about Dr. Bell. He is a brilliant and kind doctor. He allows you to ask as may questions that you have, however his overview of your procedure is so thorough that there are so few questions left to answer. Post-op visits are filled with detailed information for you to use. His office staff are very friendly and helpful.

I'm a patient at Summit Medical Group and wanted to see a weight loss surgeon, so my primary told me that I had to see a Summit Medical Group surgeon or he couldn't clear me for the surgery. So, I saw him, and he seemed nice at first. Unfortunately, I've had problem after problem and he's been so distant and non-understanding with such a lack of compassion that I'm following up with another surgeon. IN FACT, I'm leaving Summit Medical Group for a more ethical medical practice.

I wanted to have weight loss surgery, so I heard of a surgeon in Morristown. I went to my primary at SMG but he told me that I had to see the SMG weight loss surgeon, or he wouldn't clear me. So, I went to Dr. Bell. What a nightmare. This man should not even be in practice. I ended up having a complication and Dr. Bell just acted like it was too bad. In fact, he said that it was an acceptable and known complication. Really? I met two other patients with similar stories in the SMG office waiting room. They too wanted to go to other surgeons only to be forced to see Dr. Bell or not get clearances for a non SMG weight loss surgeon. This man only gets patients because SMG forces us to go to him. That's got to be illegal or at least unethical!
