When my local Urologist discovered a mass in my kidney in a extremely difficult location for removal, He referred me to Fox Chase Cancer center. At Fox Chase Dr. Robert Uzzo was able to remove the mass and save 90% of my kidney. Not only is Dr. Uzzo a highly skilled surgeon, he also listened to any and all of our concerns and gave us the reassurance that we were in the best hands having chosen Fox Chase. Only a week and a half after surgery my wife and I enjoyed a lovely day at "Longwood Gardens". Thank You again Dr Uzzo and your team at Fox Chase for giving me excellent care and guidance through a very difficult time.
My Fox Chase Experience I was diagnosed with bladder cancer several years back. I was 48 years old. I went through 2 rounds of BCG treatments with my urologist at that time, outside of Foxchase. They seemed to think that this removed the cancer, but each time I went for checkups, they noted that the bladder still looked a little red. Finally, my urologist recommended a visit with a more experienced urologist, who recommended removing my bladder, which is quite a serious surgical procedure, with a very long recovery time. The thought of going through this life-changing surgery was very upsetting news. But then, as I was sharing my story with different people, one name kept coming up time and time again ... Dr. Uzzo, from Foxchase. It seemed that everyone I spoke with ... friends, neighbor, coworkers ... had a loved one that had a positive experience with Dr. Uzzo. They were all saying that I had to see him to get a second opinion. My partner and I made an appointment and went in to see him. What a difference this was compared to my prior experience with the urologist at the first hospital. After sitting with Dr. Uzzo for a few minutes, our nervousness began to subside. He really took his time to review all of the options with us, keeping my âquality of lifeâ in the forefront of the conversation. He went over all of the treatment options, as well as the different surgical ones, complete with drawing diagrams for us to help us understand some of the procedures better. When he recommended that we try some other forms of treatments instead of jumping right into surgery, my heart leapt. I looked at my partner, who had a tear in his eye, as this was the first time that options other than bladder removal were being suggested at this stage. Dr. Uzzo took all the factors into consideration, including my young age and also that the cancer was in an early stage. We agreed to go through a series of different types of treatments at Foxchase, with Dr. Uzzoâs recommendation. His head nurse, Sue Burke, and I became quite familiar with each other as the treatments leave you no other option. The treatments can be a bit unpleasant to say the least but I could not have asked for a nicer, more caring nurse than Sue. She is a gem! She made me feel so relaxed and comfortable, like I was just hanging out with an old friend, and I cannot thank her enough. As a matter of fact all of the staff at Foxchase are wonderful ... caring, friendly ... really a great group. I would be remiss if I did not mention the help we got with all of the paperwork and correspondence. There were a lot of phone calls and emails back and forth between insurance companies and different doctors to get records transferred and procedures approved. Dr. Uzzo and Sue were on top of it all, contacting several different sources to get all of this accomplished. They also would respond to me outside of their normal working hours, when I had questions about different things. Never did I have to wait to hear back from them, which is very rare indeed. I have now completed my treatments and two years of maintenance treatments. Dr. Uzzo did final tests and biopsies and I could not be happier to report that I am now cancer free! Dr. Uzzo is an extraordinary doctor but more importantly, a great and caring man. He and his staff really made me feel that they care and I cannot say strongly enough how lucky I feel, having the support of the Foxchase team behind me at this difficult time. Go Foxchase!
In March 2015, I was scheduled for robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy with a Central Jersey urologist at a Central Jersey hospital to remove a < 3 cm. renal mass from my right kidney. After speaking with the Central Jersey doctor my wife and I were displeased with his indirect approach and evasiveness to answer basic questions. In addition the Central Jersey hospital had mediocre reviews. A friend told us of Fox Chase CC. Upon researching my wife and I found Dr. Uzzo. This was a blessing. A week later we met with dr. Uzzo. He was very compassionate. Dr. Uzzo spoke extensively about my surgery and Fox Chase. We were very comfortable with Dr. Uzzo and felt he demonstrated a sincere commitment and concern for me. My surgery was scheduled for April 1, 2015. Dr. Uzzo and the Fox Chase team delivered excellent quality care prior to surgery and round the clock care during my several days of recovery. I even received calls for several days from the CARE TEAM after returning home. This is why you should choose the renown Dr. Uzzo and Fox Chase Cancer Center.
Dr. Uzzo is the best urologist in the Philadelphia area. He is a very kind person with an excellent bedside manner. I came to see him seeking a second opinion and ended having him do my surgery because I was convinced that he was the best doctor to perform my surgery. He ran additional tests to help him come up with a precise diagnosis for me and everything was accurate. The surgery went very well and I was able to come out of the hospital in a shorter time than what the other doctor suggested. I feel like he was an answer to my prayers and I feel blessed. He has received excellent education and training at the top medical institutions in the US including NY Cornell medical School, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Cleveland Clinic, the #1 hospital in the nation which is shown by the excellent care he provided to me.
Dr. Uzzo is the gold standard: knowledgeable, skilled, comforting, direct yet gentle.
Why can't ever doc be like him and every hospital meet the standards of fox chase? You couldn't be in better hands - especially during a stressful time.
HE SAID HIS JOB WAS TO CURE ME, AND HE DID. THERE CAN BE SOME COMPLICATIONS,THE PERCENTAGE IS VERY LOW. WELL MY LUCK I HAPPEN TO HAVE SOME. COMPARE WHAT COULD'VE, I'L TAKE IT. HE N HIS STAFF SHOULD RUN THE COUNTRY
I had been in the hospital a few times over the past four years. By far this was the best experience I've had. The nurses and doctors were so attentive and so caring! Dr. Uzzo did a fantastic job with my surgery. He did it robotically, laparoscopically! I was told by another doctor at another facility that I probably couldn't get this surgery done laparoscopically since I had another laparoscopic surgery in my abdomen three years ago. Dr. Uzzo was confident and assured me that he could do it with no problem. He was able to remove the growth and a small part of my kidney. The surgery went well and I only spent a few days in the hospital. Recovery went well. I would definitely recommend Dr. Uzzo and Fox Chase for this kind of surgery.
I went to see Dr. Uzzo for a second opinion regarding my diagnosis of kidney cancer. Basically, he told me the same things the first doctor did, but he also asked me if I had any questions and also asked the person who came with me if she had any questions, which I thought was very thoughtful. He told m how many of these surgeries he had done. He also told me of a website I could use to find any information I might want to know about the cancer, the surgery, the hospital, or him. Because of his openness, I chose him at Fox Chase Cancer Center. After the surgery, he explained the whole procedure in detail to my anxious daughter. When he came to see me, he didn't speak to me like the other doctors did---with one foot in my room and the other foot in the hall. He came into my room and sat on my bed and held my hand and told me how the surgery went and what the prognosis was, but all this was done AFTER he asked me how I was feeling and if I had any pain. He had to go to Ireland while I was still in the hospital but a few days after I got home, he got the pathology results and called me from Ireland to give me the good news that the tumor was not malignant. I had a rare benign kidney tumor. The following week I saw him for my post-op visit and he couldn't have been kinder to me or my husband. I highly recommend Dr. Uzzo to anyone who needs urologic surgery.
Dr. Uzzo, his professional staff, surgical team and the nurses and technicians at Fox Chase Cancer Center provided excellent care treating me for muscle invasive bladder cancer. Itâs not easy learning that you have bladder cancer that requires major surgery but Dr. Uzzo took the time to explain what the disease was doing to my body and the various surgical options available for treatment. I was a candidate for complete removal of the bladder and replacing it with an orthotopic neo-bladder reconstruction. I decided on that option. Dr. Uzzo explained all risks associated with this major surgery and described possible hurdles I may encounter in recovery. The doctor also put me in touch with a former patient who had the procedure and who could answer any questions I had. This was helpful knowing what was to come and reassuring that getting rid of that cancer is the main thing and recovery from the operation is well worth the surgery. I may well be the poster boy for everything that goes right with this procedure but thatâs all due to the outstanding surgical knowledge and expertise of Dr. Uzzo and his team. All I did was follow their instructions. Recovery has been just as the doctor described and without any real hurdles. Knowing what to expect is very helpful but more importantly receiving top quality care from Dr. Uzzo, his professional team and the expert nursing staff at Fox Chase makes all the difference. If asked where to go for urological cancer treatment I highly recommend Dr. Uzzo and the team at Fox Chase Cancer Center. They certainly got great results with me and I will be forever thankful. â J. There just arenât enough words to say how much I appreciate all the kindness and support I experienced at Fox Chase Cancer Center, Dr. Uzzo and his team! It's unbelievable how nice and caring everyone is. I live 2 ½ hours away, and the drive is worth it. I couldnât have been in better hands. Dr. Uzzo is MAGNIFICENT; heâs confident but not arrogant, he truly knows what he is doing. He is compassionate, knowledgeable, and caring. A man of such intelligence and nationally recognized is KIND and down to earth. He truly cares about his patients; you donât feel like a piece of beef going through the cattle shoot. He really listens and cares. When friends asked if I was nervous about the surgery, no Iâm in the best hands Dr. Uzzoâs hands. Dr. Uzzo and his team are the best! The doctors and nurses at Fox Chase are wonderful Thanks Dr. Uzzo This is definitely the place to go.
Dr. Robert Uzzo is truly a lifesaver. When I came to Fox Chase with kidney cancer, I was very frightened. After my meeting with Dr. Uzzo, I relaxed because he truly put me at ease. Not only is he a brilliant doctor, but he is a kind and compassionate person. I knew before going into surgery that I was in extremely capable hands. Dr. Uzzo also came highly recommended by a Princeton oncologist who is well respected, which also attests to his reputation and skill. I think the one thing that really made the difference upon first meeting him was when he said, "We are going to do everything we can to save your kidney." My wife and I knew at that moment that choosing Fox Chase and Dr. Uzzo and his team was going to be a lifesaving decision.
When my kidney cancer came back, I wanted another opinion. I was referred to Dr. Robert Uzzo at Fox-Chase. I could not have been in better hands. My operation was complex due to previous treatments, but Dr. Uzzo was able to save most of my kidney, removing the tumor and surrounding scar tissues. The Fox-Chase hospital facility is very nice and almost every single staff person we met was beyond friendly and helpful, seeking out contact with us. If we stood still for too long anywhere, someone approached us and asked if we needed help, or directions. It's like Disney runs the place! The food is so-so, run by Sodexho, and tastes institutional, and not the good kind of institutional. It was nice though that there were no set meal periods, I could pick up the phone from 7 am to 6 pm and order anything I was permitted to on my special menu. But the rest of the facility is top notch. Nurses are compassionate, and genuinely cared about my recovery ,and my family while they were visiting. Not fun to be in the hospital for 5 days, but my pain and comfort were managed as well as could be expected.
After being diagnosed with a kidney tumor, I was referred to Dr. Uzzo at Fox Chase. He is absolutely the best. His diagnosis and explanations were comprehensive -- he answered all our questions before we even asked them. The robotic surgery went even better than I expected -- with a short recovery and minimal pain. He only needed to remove 10% of my kidney, and was able to get all of the tumor. He is well published, has a caring manner, explains everything clearly --- He is an outstanding physician!
I had gone to another urologist at a large hospital in phila who told me that only way to handle my renal cell stage one was surgery and a long recovery time, scheduled operation, went to Dr uzzo for 2nd opinion and be debunked prior dr, Did robotic surgery, just took out mass, left 85% of kidney and back on my feet in 2 weeks, Follow this advice, go to Dr Uzzo, just don't trust what another Dr says, He will Lead you on right path
In the Fall of 2007 I was Diagnosed with Cancer on both Kidneys. My name is John and I am a Cancer Survivor thanks to Dr. Uzzo, his team and the Fox Chase Cancer Center. It is now January 2013 and I am Cancer-free. When I first heard the news, it was like being struck with a thunderbolt. I expected that I would be gone in a few months. Well it is going on six years, thanks to Dr. Uzzo. I cannot say enough good things about this great Man/Doctor and all of his God-given talents. I consider myself a very, very lucky man to have been guided to Dr. Uzzo.
Extremely competent.Explains diagnosis thoroughly.Excellent bedside manner.Cares about his patients. In my case, he removed a kidney tumorand spared the kidney.
I am not a fan of doctor reviews. It is not a popularity contest and sometimes stuffy doctors can give you outstanding care while personable doctors can botch things up. The data should speak for itself, but we aren't there yet. However, Dr. Uzzo is fantastic. What matters most is this man's expertise and it is nearly peerless. He is a leading expert on kidney cancer and organ sparing surgery. He can explain the guidelines and research better than any other urological oncologist, because he wrote most of it! His colleagues are fantastic as well. If you have a diagnosis of kidney cancer, please get an appointment at FCCC.
Dr Uzzo is terrific. He explained everything to me, spent as much time with me and my family as we needed and gave us 110% all the time. His staff and the hospital were great. I never felt like a number but rather that my well being was their many concern. He is reputably one of the best in the country in his specialty.
Dr. Uzzo is one of the best kidney surgeons in the country. He is a leading authority on kidney sparing surgery for cancer and (I am told and learned from my research) has one of the biggest experiences in laparoscopic and robotic surgery.....he is also extremely kind and takes great care of patients. I noticed on pubmed.com that he also publishes a LOT about kidney and other urinary tumors.
Dr. Uzzo is amazing. Other doctors wanted to remove both of my kidneys and put me on dialysis. He was able to only remove a part of each kidney. I have now been cancer free for over 3 years. Fox Chase and Dr. Uzzo are the best!
