Back in 1997 my 5-year-old son had adenoids and permanent ear infections in winter time, and was diagnosed having liquid inside his ears. An ENT doctor at MEEI said that the only solution is to remove adenoids and insert microtubes going through his ear-drum for 6 months if I remember right, that would allow to drain liquid out of the middle ear. In this case there would be close to impossible to take a shower for the boy during this half a year period, my wife didn't like this option at all. We decided to get a 2nd opinion and I was lucky to get referred to Dr Nuss, who confirmed that of course adenoids should be removed, however it was enough to do a one time draining of the liquid from the middle ear. Due to removal of adenoids the ear infections should not persist any more,Dr Nuss argued, and the liquid should not accumulate in the middle (or inner) ear. We agreed to Dr Nuss suggestion, and it worked! I strongly believe Dr Nuss is a bright and creative representative of Harvard Medical School and also a very caring doctor.
