Dr. K is great, I was just always told not to say they are excellent / perfect because it made it easy for them to stop trying. The girls in the office do amaze me thee know who I am even when I haven't been there in a year and walk in unexpected...

I was referred Dr Kamyar for colonoscopy by my primary doctor. Procedure was perfectly scheduled by his staff providing me with everything i needed to prepare for the procedure. Got there on time one hour ahead as advised. Prepped by Grossmont staff and ready by 7:45 for my scheduled 8:00 am procedure. Nurse told me to relax as he was always at least 25 minutes late. True to form, he strolled in at 8:35 am. This shows disregard for his patients and hospital staff. Otherwise all went well.

I agree with the last comment. Dr. Kamyar is one of the most competent, capable doctors I've ever seen. He genuinely cares and wants to help but even more, he knows his stuff. I don't mind waiting for my appointment because when he sees me he takes his time and explains everything so well. I'm happy to be going to the best gastroenterologist in San Diego!

After having read some of the reviews on here, I wonder if these individuals are writing about the same Dr. Kamyar. The one I have visited numerous times has been nothing short of caring, considerate, and highly competent. Considering that I have been his patient for nearly a decade, I am well aware of his expertise, which includes having been a former chief of staff of Grossmont Hospital and a GI specialist in La Mesa for nearly forty years, if I'm not mistaken. Also, it is clear that he is an intelligent and well-read person, making for interesting general conversation.But, most importantly, he knows his specialty extremely well. Primary physicians speak extraordinarily highly of him. Mine labeled him the best GI doctor in San Diego, period.There can be little doubt that he cares about his patients. Considering how long he's been practicing, I'm sure he could retire, but he's still practicing out of what what appears to be a love for his work.What might throw some people off is… his sense of humor (i.e. mentioning one's weight, etc). However, if your physician can't politely / light-heartedly comment on your need to reduce your weight, who can? It is sad that some people are so beholden to their obesity that the slightest mention from an expert regarding the need to lose weight is perceived as disrespectful. Actually, I truly believe that is the sort of direct advice our nation especially needs more of. Also, he may be perceived to quickly transition from light-hearted conversation to very direct, in-depth discussion regarding medical issues. This might somehow make him seem arrogant, but it is his job, so I don't fault him for wanting to engage someone in a friendly way, then establish the need to elicit information about health issues.The only minor issue I've had is that, since he's a specialist, it's usually necessary to schedule appointments decently in advance. I understand that an isolated individual or two might have had a bad experience, then decided to thrash his online rating. The only reason I even decided to post anything is because I was shocked at the extent to which his rating on here diverges from truth.

Dr. Kamyar downplayed a serious condition. My spouse had me get a second opinion. Other doctor referred me immediately to a surgeon who operated on me the next week. Office staff was very pleasant and friendly. I would recommend finding a different doctor that is held in high regard by his peers and patients. Stay away from this one.

Makes condescending statements. Seems angry. Postponed procedure for a serious condition in colon. I told him I was due for another procedure and he shook his head no and then scheduled it 5 months later. He commented about my insurance causing a problem. To my knowledge my insurance company has not denied any procedures requested. That will make it a year sense I had that particular procedure. Last time that happened the tumor grew back completely. When I told him that I was concerned about the tumor growing back he just causally said "I hope not" and shrugged his shoulders. He made insulting comments about my appearance and weight because I had gained 10 pounds(after I told him I had quit smoking after thirty years). He was upset that I wasn't taking some medication regularly. I thought the medication was just for heart burn so I wasn't taking it on a regular basis because I wasn't having heartburn. I thought it was in case I had heartburn. Ends up I had precancerous tissue… but he never told me that till the office visit. I told him I would lose 10 pounds and make sure I took my medication. He did not prescribe the correct amount of medication. He did not write down what he prescribed then said I wasn't participating in my own health care because I did not remember what he had prescribed (I did give him a list of all medications when I first started seeing him.) The only medication I couldn't recall was the one He had prescribed and I thought he would have known that. When I got home I checked and he prescribed me half the dose of what he originally did. He does not give info. He told me to research the internet. He never told me my condition was precancerous till next visit months later. Never calls or follows up. He did not sedate me enough for most of my procedures 6-8 (watched almost all procedures on TV and could feel him shoving and jamming; very painful and uncomfortable) Told me I needed a psychiatrist because another doctor prescribed a mild anxiety med (Zanex to take before procedure). I throw up and get migraine headaches from dehydration prior to every procedure. After four years of trying to work with him it is obvious that he does not care about me or my health. I think he is a very skilled an intelligent doctor but his attitude has resulted in me not trusting him anymore with my health. I have a life threatening illness. He has some biases and prejudices at least when it comes to me. Nurses at hospital inferred that he had a temper or attitude. I get it now. I do not argue with him. I'm always a little blind sided and caught off guard by what he says. I try to be polite and I just sit there when he says stuff to me because I don't know how to respond. When the appt is over I just sit in my car for awhile and try to figure out what just happened? Sometimes I cry. I will just quietly go away and find another doctor. I hope this helps someone else avoid having to endure what I had to endure for over four years. It may be that he just didn't like or care about me. ;-( I give up. I'm just going to look for another doctor. Hopefully someone out there cares.
