 |  Good As It Gets! (surgery for NPH)  |  show details
by John H. Rowe on May 20th, 2013

Dr. Benny (sometimes behind his back my sister and I have called him) Is one talented, sharp, tuned in Neurosurgeon. I remember a comment made about him: " I like him because he has small hands" What? I asked? "Yes, because he'll be steady and precise during your operation" Really? Ohh ok.. you mean he won't lose a clamp in my head during surgery... something like that? Yes, something like that.... Anyway, backing up.... I tried for years to dismiss my diagnosis, to 'walk it off' drove up to The VA hospital near Gainesville to get a second opinion. I got one but not a satisfactory one, got a third opinion from a doc who was in the "bay of pigs" Cuba military operation....he reviewed Dr. Benny's assessment and pronounced it correct, even adding that he thought I was in very capable hands, relax. Sure, It's not YOUR HEAD being drilled into! Be that as it may the surgery for I believe called a Peritoneal Shunt was done... and slowly I came around... a few adjustments by magnets (I really don't get those because I can't see what's going on over my head! and so far everything has been fine and is expected to continue to be fine for the rest of my life.... knock on cranium! Thanks doc! Keep up the good work! John

When you are about to undergo brain surgery you obviously want the best of the best. That's what is what I received from Dr. Benveniste and his staff My family felt supported by them at this difficult time and he assured me he was going to do his best. His quick smile and reassuring manner helped us get through the days before and after the sugery. I told him he was my hero - and I meant it. His staff was outstanding. Dr. Gaynor, Dr. Levine, Dr. Khan, even the secretary were a source of comfort for me and my family. God bless them all.
