Dr. Shumyle Alam, MD

My daughter has neurogenic bowel and bladder from Spina bifida. Dr Alam did a complicated surgery that fixed what previous doctors had messed up. She now has excellent quality of life. We're so thankful we found him and trust him so much we continue to travel across several states to see him.

I am in the medical field and my son recently had a few visits. We were strongly pushed in one direction. when we asked about alternatives, everything and every other doctor were all wrong. did not feel right to us.

I went to Dr. Alam for my son after being with a urologist who was not the right fit for us for 5 years. Dr. Alam is patient, kind, great with kids and returns phone calls and emails. I travel from NJ to SC to see him and he is very knowledgeable on many different aspects. I should have gone to see him sooner. Don't hesitate to go to him.

Best Pediatric Urologist.. He does what is best for the patient. Compassionate, caring and best bedside manners.

If your child needs is in need of help with his bladder or bowel, I would make the trip to see this doctor. He is outstanding in every regard.

I cannot thank Dr. Alam enough for what he has done for me. He truly is a life saver! I was born with an anorectal congenital disorder and he fixed it in less than 6 months. He seeks every option in the universe for what's best for his patients. He helped me live a normal life again. If it wasn't for an online forum I've come across with I wouldn't have met this wonderful and knowledgable doctor! I've been to several doctors on Long Island and the experiences with them were a disaster! Dr. Alam checks on his patients and their parents DIRECTLY either by phone call or email. He would answer any questions you have based on what he think is good for you/your child from a medical point of view and on a personal level as well. Personality wise, he has a good sense of humor and is very cool. He is not your typical urologist! His nurse, Lisa is very kind and very involved as well. If Dr. Alam's schedule gets busy during the week, Lisa is the best person to speak with if you have questions… about anything related to your medical condition. Staff are also nice and would do easy appointments with you. No waiting for hours in the office! I would highly recommend Dr. Shumyle Alam to patients with rare congenital conditions that no regular urologist could ever fix!

After taking my five year old to every "best specialist" on Long Island I was given Dr. Alams info. He saved my sons life, and gave him a chance to have a normal further. He explained every step that would need to be taken. In the beginning he ask me to give him time to fix my little boy. And I thought he meant years. No he meant a few months. He brought my sons bladder back down to the size it was suppose to be, and save him from going into kidney failure. While every other doctor said there would be nothing that could be done till he was at least five I found out that Doctor Alam fixes these issues at six months, some even six DAYS old. My son is five and he has been just a car ride away in the city for six years. He really cares for his patients. And was always there for my emails for emergency room visits or pop up UTI's my son would have. He even answered me while he was out of the country! They broke the mold when they made him. He is a wonderful doctor, and he is great… with parents as well. I've already recommended another mommy who's son was born like mine and she is so happy. I only wish there was somebody that could've given me his number when my son was a baby.
