Dr. Tara Illeana Allmen, MD

I never write reviews. However, it’s rare these days to find a doctor who is so authentically dedicated, caring, professional, and kind. When it comes to taking care of perimenopausal women, there is no one better than Dr. Allmen. I also found her book, Menopause Confidential, enlightening.

Pros: very responsive via email. When she is in a good mood she is so pleasant and funny. Initially, I was happy to have found her 8 years ago as there was not a lot of knowledgeable practitioners in the field of HRT. Her book is good, she shares basic - new to peri meno and menopause knowledge. Cons: Not enough room here for all the cons. She could not help me with basic breast (biopsy) changes and HRT. Basically she told me to continue my breast "journey" with traditional(breast surgeons and OBGYNs)MDs who opposed any use of HRT. Additionally she did not even give me any non hormonal treatment plans to help. After seeing Dr Allmen I found 2 other NAMS providers who easily and confidently gave me solid fact based evidence to confidently continue HRT. Actually one of the providers stated Dr Allmen should have known this information. Her prices are outrageous especially for her very basic knowledge and curt attitude. When I started in 2018-19 Dr Allmen’s price was around $800/year… then jumped up to 1,950 in 2023- 2024

Dr. Tara Allmen is an exceptional doctor. She cares about her patients well beyond her specific practice as an OB/GYN. She is an expert in womens health, really all aspects of health and well being. She always offered helpful actionable guidance whenever I’ve expressed concerns. Lastly she is very generous with her time. On many occasions, she will often call return calls during her personal time (which is above and beyond many other physicians in my experience.)

Just buy the book. There isn’t much more to her than that. Not a doctor, more like a TED talk.

Dr. Allmen is amazing. I can be shy, but she made it easy to talk about everything. The care she puts into treating her patients is unbelievable.

Dr. Allmen is a highly competent doctor. She works from a comprehensive, research-based model with an approach that is warm and humorous. Dr. Allmen is very responsive to my communication and follows-up immediately with pending issues (i.e., prescriptions for diagnostic testing, various referrals, testing results). I've been her patient for three years and plan to remain so!

Dr. Allmen is incredibly compassionate and thorough. She came highly recommended by a world renowned bone metabolic specialist. I had early onset osteoporosis. Dr. Allmen has attended to my bone health needs as well as my midlife needs. I live in New Jersey but drive to NYC to get my once annual visit with Dr. Allmen. She is worth the trip.

I have been a patient of Dr. Allmen for the past few year. After reading her book, a must read, I knew she was the professional I needed to see. She is very knowledgable, professional and her humor makes it easy to talk about anything. She takes the time to discuss any issues and questions you have regarding all topics including your overall health. I highly recommend her.

Dr. Allmen is just absolutely wonderful! She is professional, knowledgable, kind, courteous, witty and funny. She listens to you as her patient and addresses your concerns. I am so glad to have met her as she has resolved all my hormonal / menopausal issues. Her book is a great read! I would definitely recommend Dr. Allmen to anyone.

Dr. Allmen is probably one of the leading experts in the field of menopause and how is affects women. She has a great personality and she is quick witted and that makes it easy to discuss some of the more embarrassing and emotional aspects of being premenopausal or in menopause. Like a lot of women who live In the suburbs I have been to very good physicians, but they aren’t as versed on this topic. So my advice is she is worth the trip. She is extremely responsive to getting back to you. She is easy to arrange an appointment with. She doesn’t Keep you waiting. She wrote a book, it’s on Amazon and you will understand how she makes this relatable and a normal journey .You leave her office feeling renewed and hopeful that you can enjoy your active life.
