Dr. Thomas J. Rutherford is the medical director of the Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute and director of the Division of Gynecology and Oncology at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. He approaches patient care as an advocate for total cancer care, recognizing that patient care encompasses a continuum from prevention and high-risk genetic screening to individualized treatment, survivorship and end-of-life care. A nationally recognized surgeon, Dr. Rutherford came to Tampa from Western Connecticut Health Network, where he was the network physician director of cancer services. Before that, he was a professor, division director of gynecologic oncology and director of the gynecologic oncology fellowship at the Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Rutherford has authored more than 100 scientific journal articles on the prevention, early detection and treatment of gynecological cancers.

I'm impressed with Dr. Rutherford. His bedside manner is explicit! The way you care for your patients says alot about you. He's not a top doctor for no reason.He has done surgery on me twice and I would highly recommend him. Great doctors aren't a dime a dozen. He will answer all your questions and the whole team at Moffit has been a great experience they are so polite.

I am alive 24 years after Dr. Thomas Rutherford saved my life from ovarian cancer - for two reasons: One - his obvious clinical expertise and Two - he cared! And when a patient knows her doctor cares, it counts a lot! I wish I could thank him in person now, and introduce him to my adopted daughter, who I have because of him, but I live in Calif. now; but I will never forget him!

The most amazing physician I have ever met. Aggressive and bold treatment, he encourages his patients and never lies to them or misleads them. I am thrilled he is in my corner.

This doctor was as mean as they come. He gave me a shot to numb the area in the labia and not waiting for it to take effect about 3 minutes he took a biopsy. I was screaming it hurt so bad. His remark to me was after lazer treatment I will hate him for the treatment. The biopsy came back fine. I will never go back to him.

He operated on me after I had a leak throughout my systems following a c section. As I ingested pills to stay alive and lost weight (85 lbs) this surgeon coordinated a team of doctors who unpacked my insides and repacked me tightly adding a mesh screen. I was able to live a comfortable life! He is an excellent surgeon and a miravcle worker!

Dr. Rutherford saved my life in 2007. My ovarian tumor was very large and he told me it could break on the operating table. But his skilled God-like hands saved my life. He is one of the best surgeons in the world, let alone CT. You won't be sorry if you go to him.

I was referred to Dr. Rutherford and he was everything a person needs and wants in a Doctor. He made sure all questions are answered. He explains what is going to happen and why. His bedside manner is excellant too. I trusted him to do his best by me and he did! And I dont trust anyone. His follow ups are very good too. I felt I was in very confident hands . His associate , Dr. Samuelson and his staff are wonderful as well. Everyone was very kind and caring. Thank you!
