Dr. Warren Gerald Wythe, MD

I am excited about using the Internet to enable my current patients to learn even more about the physician who has been caring for them over the past 20 years. Equally important, this is a wonderful opportunity for me to help empower potential future patients to better determine whether my participation in their medical care is a good "fit" for their particular needs.

Biography
I was born in Los Angeles, grew up in the San Fernando Valley, attended Van Nuys High School, then later graduated from UCSB in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in biological sciences. Please note that although all of my graduate medical education was done solely in California, my actual medical school studies were done in the central Mexican state of Jalisco, at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara. That remarkable period was instrumental in shaping the character of my subsequent personal and professional life, and instilled in me a tremendous sense of gratitude for everyday blessings, tolerance and …respect for peoples with backgrounds different from my own, and an appreciation for the importance of being patient. Not surprisingly, these acquired skills later resonated with and found expression in my choice of a specific medical specialty.

About my practice
I practice physical medicine and rehabilitation. This specialty serves the comprehensive needs of persons with orthopedic malformations or neurological dysfunction, with the treatment objectives of physical restoration and achievement of maximum independence I believe the experience of my life's journey has made the practice of this medical specialty particularly meaningful and purposeful. While my formal education is completed, I continue to learn in multiple ways, most importantly from my patients. I have learned that how much I care about my patients is as important to them as how much medical knowledge I possess. I have learned that my most valuable skill is my ability to listen. I have learned that optimism and a positive outlook are integral to the healing process.

How I thrive
For the past 30 years I have thrived by dancing. folk dancing as well as ballroom dancing, which I do with my wife and friends, or virtually anyone who will hold my hand. And my love of dance is just an extension of my love for music, on which I truly thrive. I recently joined the Valley Beth Shalom Synagogue Choir, which rehearses weekly and performs almost bimonthly. Since I have already mastered Spanish, my current goal is to become a fluent Hebrew speaker (and singer!). I also hope that as I mature, I will be able to keep most of my teeth, and at least some of my hair(!), and that I will be able to continue to nurture my garden (to keep it thriving) for as long as the rest of me lasts.
