Dr Waltzer had been my transplant surgeon Forgiving the fact that my surgery was a failure, something I was prepared for as a healthcare professional myself, I found that his bedside manner was abysmal. Not only was he NOT transparent with problems apparent preoperatively and intraoperatively but he avoided me for the entire course of the hospitalization. For weeks my complications were addressed by fellows and resident staff-never rounding on me. He wasn't even present at my return to the O.R. to remove the failed organ. This kind of avoidance was a "red flag".In the aftermath he could only express his "regrets for (my) bad experience"-never initiating contact to inquire as to my well-being after hospital discharge!
