Title Appendiceal Torsion in an Adult: Case Report and Review of the Literature.
    Date April 2008
    Journal Current Surgery
    Excerpt

PURPOSE: Torsion of the appendix is a rare cause of acute abdomen with presentation, treatment, and prognosis virtually identical to that of acute appendicitis. METHODS: We present a case of appendiceal torsion in a 44-year-old male, which is to our knowledge the first in an African-American man, and we review all of the reported adult cases in the English language literature. CONCLUSION: This condition may have occurred when a normal appendix is encountered and no other pathologic findings exist.

Title Salvage of Total Esophageal Reconstruction with Microvascular Free Left Colon Flap.
    Date July 2002
    Journal Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery
    Excerpt

Esophageal reconstruction has been achieved with a variety of innovative surgical techniques, including colonic interposition, gastric pull-up, pedicled, and free jejunal grafts. The authors describe an unusual case of complete thoracic esophageal reconstruction, necessitating an entirely free microvascular colon interposition as a salvage procedure to reconstitute the alimentary tract from the neck to the abdomen. To their knowledge, this specific method of reconstruction of the esophagus has not been previously reported.
