Dr Mertens treated my mom's small cell lung cancer. He was a compassionate advocate. Very down to earth. He made my mom very comfortable in his abilities. He chose aggressive treatments that matched well with my moms health status. He supported her in a 3rd line treatment decision that was outside the box. With his help she has exceeded all expectations for life expectancy and QOL. After 19 months from original DX she still has vigor and the desire to continue the fight.
