I had 2 or 3 exams in preparation for an implant supported bridge as my entire upoer bridge was loose. Prior to the work being done I needed to quit smoking for 3 months and I was saving up money for the balance I thought I would be responsible for after insurance. I thought both dentists, one being a periodontist , the other, Dr. McMahon, were very nice as well as professional and knowledgeable. A few months passed as I was exploring loans and financing until I thought I found another less expensive procedure that a different dentist offerred. I notified Dr. McMahon's office of my appointment for consultation with a different dentist and that I wanted to pick up a copy of my record and xrays. The receptionist was very nice and informed me to come in the following day to pick up my records.I was surprised that I could pick them up with just one day notice and assumed this was because they were no more than one oage and I believe, one xray. On that day, a different receptionist was working there. She declined to give me a copy of my record, stating it could take a week for the office to send them to me. There were no patients in the waiting room, and I was asking for one page of information and an Xray. She responded "we need advance notice, we do not just give records out this way., we have office procedures I explained that their other receptionist stated I could come in to get my record on that day. She just shook her head, continued doing paperwork and ignoring my request.Meanwhile, it was obvious that I was desperate, my appointment was the following day and I was soaking wet from a heavy downpour of rain. Then I asked for my impression and was informed it was misplaced . I became frantic as my bridge was attached by now by only one tooth and a new impression likely would seal its fate, leaving me toothless while I was deciding a course of action. I was so upset, I started to cry and I made the mistake of asking her if someone could try to locate it. At that point Dr. McMahon entered the room , shook his finger at me and stated "We are not going to take responsibility for this, "You waited far too long to have this done" "You cannot expect to just come in "off the street "and change our office procedures!" Every time I attempted to explain that I was told to come in by their other receptionist, they interrupted me and refused to listen. He added, "legally, we have 2 weeks"I was so upset, I left in tears, hyperventilating. I work as a health care professional and I was shocked at the way I was treated. At no point was I loud or demanding. When I began crying, it was something I could not help, the tears just started flowing in response to frustration at not being given the record, and the way I felt I was being treated and being scolded like I was a child When I returned home, my son gave me the message that Dr. McMahon's office called and that I could pick up my record by 4pm that day. I phoned his office to verify that this was acceptible. When I got to the office the receptionist handed me the record and I stated "You know your other receptionist did tell me I could pick these up today Again, no eye contact, just "goodbye". Quite an experience. I will not state my opinion. You decide how you would feel in this situation.
