Save your money -- and get a real diagnosis elsewhere Was told I would receive a proper diagnosis for an issue I've been suffering from for years, pouring my heart and soul into preparing documents for this doctor. We asked if there would be communication afterwards because the fee charged (no insurance whatsoever accepted) was exorbitant for us -- money that would otherwise have gone towards my family member's intensive cancer treatment. They knew this and still chose to lie to us. Lina Mejia and her staff promised they would take great care and at least point me in the right direction for how to resolve my dysguesia if not resolve it; what I got instead was arriving to my appointment (the absolute first thing they do before you can talk to *anyone* is charge you $360 -- that should have been the first red flag) and then proceeded to recount everything to Dr. Mejia -- all for two very disturbing things to happen: 1) her making two conflicting diagnoses; one of neuropathy (without… performing any test by gathering small fibers, something other providers later told me is a basic thing to do if you are going to diagnose neuropathy) 2) Her prescribing me a very strong antifungal medication metabolized through the liver - both saying I "had nothing" and simultaneously giving one of the strongest antifungals out there. The crazier part is this medication had an oral swish & swallow formulation, but for some reason I was only given a tablet with the logic of (I feel like an idiot for trusting it at the time) "rebalancing my microbiome". Lina Mejia then proceeded to spend some time completely dismissing the severity of all of my symptoms, and said "this will be something that will take several sessions to resolve", even though whatever "this" was to her was never clarified -- she called it fungal, neuropathy, and said it was nothing, all at the same time; me, trying to give the benefit of the doubt, just went along with it to process after. I left the session with way more questions than answers, and none of my original questions answered. The last straw was the lie about communication following appointment; I had absolutely zero communication from her to check in how I was doing. When I myself reached out to try to update her, when I was "lucky" enough to get a call back, she told me she did not want to hear from me until our next appointment. It's so unfortunate that doctors like this exist -- preying on patients' with complex pathologies' desperation to get better. Making false promises and diagnoses. She could have taken a biopsy of my oral cavity at any moment to actually come to a conclusive diagnosis that I'd been searching for years (hence seeing a *specialist* like her) but chose instead to "throw spaghetti at the wall", all while telling me to buy very expensive dental items that made my issue worse. 0/5 stars if I could -- the total experience cost me close to $1000, and it only served to lower my trust in medical "professionals". Please seek out other stomatologists who will listen and perform scientific testing for your condition; do not trust the receptionist that says Dr. Mejia will be communicative.
