Background
Dr. Onstad is a native of Colorado and has resided in the Colorado Springs area for the past 30 years.
Education
Dr. Onstad attended Steele Elementary, North Junior High and Palmer High School prior to obtaining his bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He then continued his education at the State University of New York at Buffalo obtaining his doctor of dental surgery degree.
Following his dental school training he went on to pursue advanced education in dentistry at Denver General Hospital. Dr. Onstad then practiced five years as a general dentist in Colorado Springs. This experience has provided him with a unique perspective during his Maxillofacial & Oral Surgery training. His specialty training in Maxillofacial & Oral Surgery was completed at Denver General Hospital.
Specialty Courses
Dr. Onstad has been at the forefront of Implant Dentistry having lectured worldwide in the United States, South America, …Russia and Asia. He sits on the credentialing committee at Penrose Hospital and is involved in numerous research endeavors related to Maxillofacial & Oral Surgery.
In addition to being certified in basic life support, he has advanced training in Cardiac Life Support.
Professional Organizations
Dr. Onstad has been past president of the Colorado Springs Dental Society and is a member of countless professional organizations. He is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and also the Colorado Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
He holds hospital privileges at all four Colorado Springs hospitals; Penrose-St. Francis, Penrose, Memorial Central and Memorial North.
Personal
Dr. Onstad is an avid supporter of Colorado College and in particular their hockey program. He enjoys watching CC hockey and the Avalanche. He is a passionate cyclist and rides annually in support of charitable events such as the LiveStrong series and the MS 150 Bay to Bay.
