While I was born in Anchorage, Alaska, I am a fifth generation Montanan raised on the family homestead in the Flathead Valley. Early school was at Egan which later became Fair-Mont-Egan. I attended Montana State University where I received a bachelor of science degree. I received my doctorate of dental surgery from Washington University Dental School. I was active in the Navy Reserve, and during my dental school training I participated in a rotating externship at Great Lakes Naval Hospital and Newport, RI. After graduating near the top of my class from dental school, I spent three years in the U.S. Navy stationed in Morocco and San Francisco. I then went on to complete my orthodontic residency at the University of the Pacific and returned to practice in the Flathead Valley. Since the orthodontic field is constantly changing and evolving, I further my education annually to stay current on the latest orthodontic trends and developments.
I am a member of the …American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists, the Montana Society of Orthodontists, and the Montana Dental Association. I am past president of the Montana Society of Orthodontists and served on the Montana Orthodontic Peer Review Committee as well as the local district dental society Peer Review Committee.
I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and was the first from the University of the Pacific program to attain this honor. I was also involved with the American Board in developing the national AAO re-certification program for orthodontists.
When not in the office, I can often be found on the soccer fields. I have coached high school and club soccer for almost 20 years. Many of my players have gone on to play at the collegiate level. In addition, I run Flathead Soccer Camp, a non-profit summer soccer camp, for local and statewide players. You can find information on the camp at www.flatheadsoccer.com . This camp features top collegiate and youth professional coaches from across the United States. I am also active in officiating the sport and have officiated at the Div I and II collegiate level as well as high school. In the past, I have taken teams to the UK (Scotland and England) to play high caliber teams and in tournaments. I hold a NSCAA national diploma and am a state level referee official.
I also enjoy the adventure of travel. I have lived in and traveled on six continents. I have climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro as well as Mt. Rainier. I am also a certified scuba diver and skier. I have been a past board member of Big Brothers and Sisters, am a strong supporter of all local and Montana youth activities through soccer, the high school booster organizations as well as local charities such as the Food Bank, Miracle Field, Camp Mak-A-Dream, and Samaritan House.
