Dr. Nona Breeland's full-time endodontic private practice in Chapel Hill began in 1989. A three-time graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Breeland earned her Bachelor of Science, Doctor of Dental Surgery and Certificate in Endodontics from the UNC School of Dentistry. She obtained her Master of Science degree from Columbia University in New York City.
Upon graduation from the endodontic program at UNC, Dr. Breeland joined Dr. R. Jack Shankle, founder of the Department of Endodontics at the UNC School of Dentistry, in private practice. They practiced together for three years until Dr. Shankle's retirement.
A former chair of the Board of Trustees for the North Carolina Dental Society, Dr. Breeland served as its President in 2005. During that time, she was instrumental in bringing awareness of sports related oral trauma to North Carolina high school athletic programs and concern for sugar consumption …in the public schools. Dr. Breeland has served on the 16th District ADA Delegation for eight consecutive years. In 2007, Dr. Breeland was appointed to the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund Commission and to the Board of Directors for NC Services for Dentistry.
Dr. Breeland is a Fellow in each of the following honor groups: Academy of Dentistry International, American College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy and International College of Dentists. Additionally, she is the recipient of the Dental Foundation of North Carolina's Distinguished Service Award and the North Carolina Dental Society's Meritorious Achievement Award.
Having held many other leadership roles, Dr. Breeland also acted as chair of the North Carolina Dental Health Endowment and as President of the Dental Foundation of North Carolina, Inc. In 2000, she served as General Chair of the ADA Annual Session and as Chair to the Council on ADA Sessions.
Dr. Breeland is married to Dr. Frank Maness, a general dentist in Raleigh, N.C. She is the daughter of the late Dr. Wade Breeland of Belmont, North Carolina, who served as President of the North Carolina Dental Society during the 1971-1972 term.
Clearly, Dr. Nona Breeland believes in service to others and has dedicated her professional life to making a difference. She brings the same kind of energy and excellence to her endodontic practice.
