He received his Doctorate in Dentistry from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1974. After graduation he accepted a position with the University as Associate Professor in the department of Operative Dentistry. After one year he left this position and rejoined the Air Force and was stationed at Nellis AFB.
