He then received his specialty American Academy of Periodontology training from the University of Alabama, with a joint appointment to the Veterans Administration Hospital. One of Dr. Rasmussen's main professional interests is dental implants. He …has authored articles in The Journal of Dental Research, The Journal of the Florida Dental Association, Implantology Update, and The Journal of Craniofacial Surgery. Additionally, he authored a textbook entitled The BrÃ¥nemark System of Oral Reconstruction: A Clinical Atlas. He has lectured exclusively on the subjects of periodontics and implantology, and has been interviewed on radio and television. He has traveled to Göthenburg, Sweden several times to work with the BrÃ¥nemark group. Dr. Rasmussen is one of the leading authorities in the use of the BrÃ¥nemark method of implantology, in the United States.

Dr. Rasmussen is also actively involved in clinical research. In addition to his appointment at the University of South Florida School of Medicine, Department of Otolaryngology, he has also been involved in clinical trials with the Food and Drug Administration. Most recently, he was part of a multi-center study that resulted in the release of a new therapy for controlled release of antibiotics at the local site of infection. Currently, he is working with the development of new and more effective methods of bone grafting, in conjunction with implants.
Commenting on these new developments in dentistry, Dr. Rasmussen states,
"My goal is to provide patients with state-of-the-art treatment in a warm and caring environment. It is very gratifying to educate patients about all of the exciting options that are now available to improve the quality of their lives."
