About Dr. Richard Martin
Almost a native, Dr. Martin arrived in Arizona at the age of 5. He graduated from Phoenix Union High School and Northern Arizona University, with a Zoology major (Pre-dental) and a double minor in Music and Chemistry. Dr. Martin attended one of the finest dental schools in the country, Northwestern University Dental School, located in downtown Chicago. During the first year of dental school, the dental students train in the same classes with the medical students, which allows them to develop excellent skills as diagnosticians. In addition, he was fully trained in all phases of dentistry -- diagnosis, prevention, restorations and extractions. Four years of the Windy City was enough to remind him how much he loved Arizona, so he returned and set up his practice in Glendale in 1973.
Dr. Martin has been treating patients in the Glendale area with a high degree of personal care and concern for their welfare and dental health, building a busy practice. Because of …his commitment to giving the finest, most state-of-the-art dental care, he consistently exceeds the standards for participating in continuing education courses. With his high degree of professional standards, he is a member of the American Dental Association and the Arizona State Dental Association. He has actively taken positions of responsibility in AzDA as well as Westside Dental Study Club. Dr. Martin considers the patient's needs first, and can often offer several optional treatments. His gentle nature and soft touch have created a family atmosphere in the office, keeping loyal patients in the practice for many years.
Beyond the needs of his patients in his Glendale practice, Dr. Martin is committed to helping relieve pain in the hurting world beyond our border. Several times a year Dr. Martin, along with a team of other professionals, all volunteers, travels to Mexico to provide dentistry to the people who struggle with a very difficult life in the barrios. In addition he has “adopted” a children’s home near Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico, where he and Judy, his wife, and other volunteers, provide dental care for the children. Dr. Martin and Judy have also traveled to Guatemala and Nicaragua to provide dental care to the hurting poor.
In addition to family activities, Dr. Martin sings in his church choir and he is proud to be a charter member of the Glendale Kachina Rotary Club. Traveling and sightseeing, reading Tom Clancey novels and sharing special times with family and good friends are high on his list of Fun Things to Do.
