More about Dr. Richard Raymond Gere
Dr. Gere received his dental education and DDS degree at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in 1972. After graduating from dental school he spent two years in the Indian Health Service (USPHS) as a general dentist on the Navajo reservation in New Mexico and Arizona. He received his MS degree after completing his orthodontic training at the University of Nebraska in 1976. He has been in private practice in Orangevale since 1976. Dr. Gere is a member of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists as well as the local dental and orthodontic societies. He is certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and has served on the Board of Directors of the Northern California Chapter of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists. Dr. Gere has been a member of the Cleft and Craniofacial Panels at both Sutter Hospital and UC Davis Medical Center for over 25 years. He is also currently on the staff at UC Davis where he treats patients with cleft lip and palate as well as other craniofacial anomalies. He is one of only a few dentists in Northern California that has been trained in nasoalveolar molding (NAM), a special pre-surgical orthopedic technique to fit infants with soft oral appliances designed to help reshape the lip, nose and palate. NAM improves the position of the alveolar (tooth-bearing) segments of the jaws and improves the shape and position of the nose and upper lip, thereby reducing the number of surgeries needed to correct the cleft lip and palate defects. The devices also aids in feeding by allowing an infant to achieve stronger suction. Dr. Gere and his wife, Barbara, were married in Southern California in 1968 and have two sons and two granddaughters that are currently living in the Sacramento area. Dr. Gere and Barbara were very active in school activities, youth sports and scouting as their boys were growing up and are now enjoying having their sons and grandchildren close by. They also enjoy traveling, hiking, sailing, and surfing. Having practiced in Orangevale for over 30 years, one of Dr. Gere's greatest joys is treating the children of patients he treated early in his career.
