Dr. Roger D Metcalf, DDS

   Roger D. Metcalf  D.D.S.  J.D. is a forensic odontologist located in Fort Worth, Texas, U.S.A.  The scope of his practice includes identification of unidentified human remains and bitemark analysis, age analysis, as well as civil litigation support in malpractice actions or administrative matters such as fraud investigations. Dr. Metcalf has been qualified as, and has testified as, an expert witness in forensic dentistry in federal court and in murder and capital murder trials in Texas courts.
   Roger holds a B.S. degree in biology from Baylor University and a D.D.S. from Baylor College of Dentistry.  He has completed the Fellowship in Forensic Odontology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School, Center for Education and Research in Forensics.  Roger practiced general dentistry in Arlington, Texas, area for 27 years before being appointed to the full-time position of Director of the Human ID Lab and Chief Forensic Odontologist for Tarrant …County, Texas. He is board-certified by the American Board of Forensic Odontology, and is very fortunate to currently serve on the Certification & Examination Committee, as well as being Secretary of the American Society of Forensic Odontology.
    Roger is also a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in Fort Worth--he hasn't taken the Bar exam yet, so he is not a licensed attorney, but he is in the somewhat lengthy application process to take the Bar exam. Dr. Metcalf was an active volunteer for the Innocence Project/Innocence Project of Texas/Texas Wesleyan University School of Law Innocence Project (the group that has been extensively involved in the Dallas D.N.A. exonerations) while in law school, and proudly served as a dental officer with the 214th Medical Brigade of the Texas State Guard with the rank of Lt Colonel. He is currently enrolled in the master's degree program in forensic science administration at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences.
What He Does
   Roger is employed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's District in Fort Worth, Texas.  He is the Director of the Human Identification Laboratory and Chief Forensic Odontologist, as well as Deputy Public Information Officer.  Dr. Metcalf has supervised the forensic identification of more than 2,000 unidentified bodies and personally performed over 160 dental identifications since he joined the Medical Examiner's District in July, 2004.
