I was a patient of Dr. Akhtar at the University of Maryland where I received dental services lasting over seven years. Dr. Akhtar demonstrated a level of professionalism that was unmatched by 12 of her peers at the University of Maryland Dental School.

I have struggled with a fear of dentists due to bad dental care from my childhood, which spiraled into this cycle of neglecting oral hygiene in my adulthood until the pain caught up with me. You can imagine my anxiety when I finally gathered the courage to make the appointment with Dr. Akhtar, but I can’t explain how pleasantly surprised I was that all my fears slowly dissipated as she listened to my issues, without judgement, carefully examined my mouth and jaw, told me everything would be fine, reassured me that my worst fear won’t happen—namely, I will not lose my teeth or be wearing dentures at 40, lol. I am happy to say that my fears are now beside me, and although I do have some catch up work for the years lost, including some serious stuff including gum grafts and implants, Dr. Akhtar… has put together a trust worthy plan for me over the course of the next year and she is the ONLY dentist I could ever imagine feeling safe with to get my oral health back in order.
