She then attended UMKC School of Dentistry, obtaining her Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree, in 1991. In 1992, she completed her Advanced Education in General Dentistry with the United States Air Force and received her Certificate in Orthodontics from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1997.

She is currently a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Southwest Society of Orthodontists, Kansas Association of Orthodontists, Tweed Study Club of the Midwest, …American Dental Association, Kansas Dental Association, First District Dental Society and the Douglas County Dental Society.
In her personal life, Dr. Shelly has been married to her husband for over 20 years. They have two daughters and a Maltese named Oscar. Dr. Shelly gives back to her local community by donating to numerous charities and youth organizations. She spends most of her free time in activities related to her children. She also enjoys reading, biking, traveling and going to the lake.
