"My greatest reward is the impact we can have on the quality of life for a child and their family. Many of our patients are in such severe oral pain they are unable to eat and often are underweight. A child crying from a toothache can keep the entire household awake night after night. The most common comment I hear from families after dental surgery is how much better they are able to eat, that it no longer hurts to chew."
Dr. Sabatini provides full mouth dental rehabilitation to children who have difficulties getting adequate dental and oral health care. This includes qualified children, special needs patients and medically compromised patients. Certain dental rehabilitation services are performed under general anesthesia at Mission Hospital and the Asheville Surgery Center.
In addition, Dr. Sabatini provides preventative and restorative dental care to qualified school-aged children on the ToothBus …mobile dental clinics at elementary schools throughout western North Carolina.
Treatment in the hospital and on the ToothBus can include:
Preventative procedures such as topical fluoride varnish application and sealant placement
Restorative procedures such as amalgams, composites, pulp treatments, stainless steel crowns and space maintenance
Oral surgery procedures such as extraction (both simple and surgical) of primary and permanent teeth, biopsy of oral lesions
Periodontal procedures such as scaling with hand instruments and ultrasonic scalers
Dr. Sabatini also coordinates the extramural rotation of UNC School of Dentistry students and MAHEC GPR dental residents, which includes program orientation, direct supervision and performance evaluations.
