Dr. Kaitlyn Marie Van Arsdell, MD

Three years ago I went to Dr. Van Arsdell regarding dysmenorrhea and an ultrasound revealed that part of the reason I was in such extreme pain was because I had fibroids. I was told that there wasn't anything I could do about it and that I should just take Advil and use a hot water bottle. My pain and suffering continued getting worse for three years, during which she never offered me additional treatment or suggested any interventions. Finally, when I was in extreme pain one day, I called her to inquire about a hysterectomy, believing that was my only option. THEN she tells me that there are actually a lot of treatment options for fibroids and period pain management. I then learned that not only could something have been done sooner to address my fibroids (which a new ultrasound shows have gotten worse) but also to relieve the pain of my ongoing dysmenorrhea and related adenomyosis. The fact that this doctor essentially denied me treatment for 3 YEARS, showing a lack of concern for… my worsening condition resulting in needless suffering is why I am only giving one star. Her overall demeanor is friendlyish but also kind of dismissive, e.g. she closes her eyes when speaking to me as if she doesn't want to even look at me, and she talks away any concerns I ever came to her with. Now that I've switched doctors, and have someone who really listens and offers appropriate care treatment options, I'm finally feeling like I have the kind of caring, attentive, skilled, professional doctor that I (and that everyone) deserve.
