Dr. Yuan Shao, MD, PhD

This physician is either incompetent and/or unethical and NP Lubrano who covers for her is even worse. I’m at stage IV endometriosis and looking at a uterine biopsy with possible bowel resection and diaphragmatic infiltration due to their incompetence with not getting down to the bottom of my pelvic pain. I believe I was with them for two years at least. She diagnosed sciatica even after I told her I didn’t have pain down the back of my leg. Bladder instillations from another incompetent physician at Scripps Clinic totally screwed up my whole system, and I was in and out of the ER multiple times without any relief and bedridden many days a month. This doctor DID NOT listen to me and respond to portal messages and documented inaccuracies stating I was on weight loss medication that never was approved by insurance. I do not recommend her or her staff.

If I could I would’ve given her a negative star, but since the lowest is one star, so here you go. She is the worst doctor I have ever had. She doesn’t care, makes mistakes very often, and forgets thing also. On the Scripps portal, patients can email their doctors for any reasons, but she has almost never returned my emails. This year, when I scheduled the annual physical, I sent her an email to request for associated blood and urine tests, but have never heard back, and when I went to the lab to get tested, the lab told me that the doctor had never ordered the tests for me. The most recent incidence is even worse: my physical therapist faxed Dr Shao’s office a referral for me to have a traction device for my lumbar in December 2022. After two months, the referral was sitting at there and didn't get to sent to my insurance for approval. After numerous phone calls, her office finally sent the referral to the insurance. However, instead of lumbar traction, she was ordering a cervical… traction. That’s like prescribing a wrong medicine for a patient, which is totally unacceptable medically and ethically. So, I filed a grievance with the insurance. Once that was done, this doctor's office was giving me hard time for everything, and the referral for me to purchase the lumbar traction device under my insurance has never been put through. So, eventually, enough is enough, and I have left this doctor for good.

I have been seeing Dr. Shao as primary care physician for more than 2 years now. Every time I visited her office she listened with care, she ordered the necessary tests and reviewed all my history. She always answers my questions on their website without delays. I strongly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a primary car physician. Thank you Dr. Shao

She likes to order test that are unnecessary. I have received multiple phone calls from my health insurance explaining why they wont cover certain test that I did not order, ask her to order, or even knew she ordered....... I think she knows medicine and wouldn't put me in harm, but I definitely do not like the reimbursement game she's playing..
