I am a 65 year old with a long history of involvement in endurance sports including bike racing, trail running, and Ironman triathlons. After several meniscus repairs and a lot of arthritis, I ran out of cartilage and ended up with the bone on bone scenario. I was told by several orthopedic providers that I needed a total knee replacement and that my running days were over. I saw Dr Duke's bio and realized he offered a newer approach to joint replacement and immediately made an appointment. He ordered x-rays and immediately assured me I only needed a partial replacement and that I would be able to return to my sports. I agreed and scheduled the surgery. Dr Dukes was very approachable and assuring on surgery day. Surgery went well and I went home four hours later. Dr Dukes has an approach to pain management that avoids the use of narcotics which involves using a nerve block, non-narcotic pain meds, and an icing/compression therapy. This all worked well for me with only one day of pain… greater than 5/10. One week later I am walking without assistance including stairs and uneven surfaces. My range of motion returned quickly. Overall, the experience has been very positive, a result of Dr Duke's expertise and modern approach. I highly recommend him, especially for athletic patients of any age!
