was a new patient meeting Dr. Javier for the first time after my longtime provider at Women's Health Associates left the practice. Unfortunately, I did not feel heard or understood during my appointment. When I tried to explain my medical history and family concerns, the conversation felt rushed and dismissive. I had requested a pap smear through the intake nurse because it had been two years since my last one and I have a family history that made me feel it was important. Dr. Javier informed me that it would not be performed because I was still within current screening guidelines. When I asked for clarification about those guidelines, the explanation came across as condescending rather than informative. There was also discussion about changing my current treatment plan, despite the fact that it had been helping manage ongoing symptoms. I brought up a condition that had been monitored for years by my previous provider through regular ultrasounds, but it seemed that history had not… been reviewed beforehand. Throughout the appointment, I felt interrupted several times and sensed that prior medical decisions made collaboratively with my former practitioner were being dismissed. By the end of the visit, I no longer felt comfortable expressing my concerns and decided this provider was not the right fit for me. I have already scheduled my next annual exam with a different practitioner within the practice. After being with Dr. Swainston’s practice for 20 years, I truly hope my next experience is more attentive and patient-centered, because I would hate to have to look elsewhere for care.

I got the necessary test and treatment for the present issue, however when inquiring about proactive measures going forward with my consistent medical history/experience within the last 6 months - she was very invalidating and just gave a general health spiel and didn’t actually listen to my circumstance or questions. To get a quick job done sure she’s decent - but for proactive health decisions and treatment, I’d advise going to someone else who’s willing to hear you out and assist. As a woman, you’d expect more sympathy and avid listening from her, considering how neglected woman’s health and research/studies are in this world. But she really just spieled the general stuff written in a medical textbook or what someone can look up online - disappointing to be a woman in this field and not advocating or being proactive to your patients personal experiences.

Dr Javier spent quite a bit of time with me, which was great, but she didn’t seem to listen. She made assumptions and jumped to conclusions based on the norm, even after I explained my history. She talked at length about things that didn’t necessarily apply to me, but seemed to be her go-to speech for certain scenarios.

I had my first visit with Dr. Javier last year for my checkup that came back positive for high grade cells. She did my additional testing and explained the procedure, but she could tell that I was hesitant. She decided to look more into it and went to get a second opinion from the biologists or specialist that reviewed my results from the testing that showed she cared. She made me feel comfortable that we can just keep an eye on what’s going on and schedule a Pap smear at 6 months instead of a year and whatever I decide she was being very supportive. She’s very knowledgeable as well. I don’t blame the wait times on her either. I know they are high volume and they can only do what they can and that only gives her so much time to meet with patients so when she took her time at my appointment and explained the situation I really appreciated not feeling rushed.

Performed unnecessary test without my knowledge or consent. After visit summary has false information saying I declined things we didn't even talk about.

She is great !! She saved me and my baby by making the right decision. Plus my c section scar looks amazing

I think she’s amazing and I feel very comfortable with her . She’s very friendly and honest. I was very nervous at first because I’ve only had one obgyn who was the same doctor that delivered my sister so had been my mom’s obgyn since I was 3 years old and later became mine so after he retired I didn’t go to the gynecologist like I should but now that I am pregnant I had to find a obgyn and I am very satisfied and happy that I had got paired up with a good one my first time trying! I’ve only seen her three times now, but I’m very comfortable with her.

She's very thorough in Her diagnosis. Everything was explained to me clearly. I do understand that her bedside manner is a little blunt but I think she has gotten a lot better over the years. And I can understand some of the other reviews about her bluntness. I know it's not for everybody but she is very to the point when it comes to serious matters. She's actually very nice. She takes her job very seriously and in some situations time is of the essence, I could definitely understand that. I don't usually wait very long for appointments. The staff is great with not overbooking or double booking. I usually walk right in to my set time. All the stuff is wonderful there. I use the Tenaya location. She is also registered with mountain view Hospital so I hope this gets updated .

I'm sad that WHASN added this Dr to their team. For the MANY years I have been going there, every nurse practitioner and Dr have been amazing up until now. I have never had a Dr roll their eyes at me and make me feel so uncomfortable. She definitely doesn't seem to care about anything but a paycheck. I PRAY for her patients because she would NEVER be in charge of my health again.
