Dr. Yourong Sophie Su, MD

YouRong “Sophie” Su, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship trained open cerebrovascular/endovascular neurosurgeon at Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey. Her extensive training and dedication to both clinical practice and research have established her as a leader in the field of neurosurgery.

Dr. Su's academic journey began at Johns Hopkins University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience. She then went on to receive her Doctor of Medicine from Stanford University School of Medicine. Following medical school, Dr. Su completed a rigorous neurosurgery residency at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, where she also served as Chief Resident.

To further specialize her expertise, Dr. Su pursued multiple fellowships. She completed an Endovascular and Open Cerebrovascular Fellowship at the Baptist Neurological Institute in Jacksonville, Florida, a Microsurgery Clinical Fellowship …at Wellington Regional Hospital in New Zealand, and a research fellowship studying the mechanism of cerebral cavernous malformations to identify new treatments. This diverse training has equipped her with a comprehensive skill set in both traditional and minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques.

Dr. Su's commitment to advancing the field of neurosurgery is evident in her extensive list of publications and awards. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in leading journals such as Stroke, Nature, and Neurosurgery. Her research has explored critical topics including the treatment of cerebral cavernous malformations, the cost-effectiveness of biomarker screening for traumatic brain injury, and novel treatments for cerebral vasospasm.

Beyond her clinical and research endeavors, Dr. Su is a dedicated educator. She has served as a guest lecturer at international forums and as faculty for specialized neurosurgical courses, sharing her knowledge and expertise with the next generation of neurosurgeons. Additionally, she is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
