Raised in Los Angeles, CA, Dr. Ursani attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology. His interest in molecular biology and genetics led him to participate in research, gaining exposure to immunology and gene expression. This ultimately sparked his passion for autoimmunity and the field of Rheumatology.
Dr. Ursani completed his Internal Medicine residency training at the Seton Hall University School of Health Sciences program in South Orange, New Jersey, where he was also selected to serve as Chief Resident. He then pursued fellowship training in Rheumatology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX.
During his fellowship, he was chosen as one of the top 40 nationally recognized Rheumatology Fellows in Training to participate in musculoskeletal ultrasound training through the Ultrasound School of North American Rheumatologists (USSONAR). Due to his interest in bone health, he …focused his fellowship research on osteoporosis in patients with a history of breast cancer at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Ursani is triple board-certified in Rheumatology, Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in Rheumatology, and Internal Medicine.
He has teaching experience as a faculty member at the University of Houston School of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency Program, where he played an active role in training future physicians. In recognition of his commitment to continuing medical education, teaching, and research, he was granted the designation of Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology (FACR).
Dr. Ursani is also a published author in medical journals. He has given oral presentations at national conferences and was recognized with an award in clinical investigation.
Dr. Ursani believes the practice of medicine goes beyond the clinic or hospital. He strives to improve the healthcare system and advocate for patients through leadership roles in academic and public health organizations. He is an active volunteer for the American College of Rheumatology and was nominated as chairman of its Communications and Marketing Committee. He is also a graduate of the Texas Medical Association Leadership College and serves as a delegate to help shape healthcare policy in the state of Texas. Additionally, he is a physician ambassador for the Harris County Medical Society.
Dr. Ursani has been voted by his peers as a “Super Doctor,” a statewide recognition in Texas, since 2019. He has also been voted “Best Rheumatologist” by his patients and the community in Living Magazine each year since 2019.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Ursani enjoys spending time with his family, playing the guitar, and long-distance running. He has set a personal goal of competing in the World Marathon Majors.
